Primary Functions

Thoroughly review and interpret production work orders, technical specification sheets, and digital cut files to understand material types, quantities, and cutting instructions.
Accurately lay out and spread single or multiple plies of fabric, ensuring proper alignment of grainlines, patterns, and stripes while maintaining correct tension to avoid distortion.
Precisely position and trace master patterns or markers onto fabric using chalk, pencils, or specialized marking tools, ensuring all markings are clear and accurate for cutting.
Operate a variety of industrial cutting equipment, including hand-held rotary cutters, electric straight knives, and band saws, with exceptional skill and adherence to safety standards.
Program and operate computerized, automated cutting systems (such as Gerber, Lectra, or Zund) by loading cut files, monitoring machine performance, and troubleshooting minor issues.
Conduct meticulous inspections of raw fabric rolls for defects, such as dye inconsistencies, snags, holes, or weaving flaws, and strategically cut around them to maximize yield.
Execute precision cuts for a diverse range of fabric types, from delicate silks and chiffons to heavy denims, canvases, and technical textiles, adjusting techniques as required.
Ensure every cut component perfectly matches the pattern specifications in shape and size, performing regular quality checks against a master pattern.
Systematically count, bundle, and ticket cut pieces and stacks according to the work order, ensuring all components for a single garment or product are grouped together.
Maintain an organized and efficient workflow within the cutting room to meet demanding production deadlines and daily output quotas.
Calculate material consumption and strategically place patterns (nesting) to maximize fabric utilization and significantly minimize waste.
Carefully handle and transport large, heavy rolls of fabric and cut bundles to and from storage, spreading tables, and the sewing department.
Follow detailed instructions for cutting samples, prototypes, and small production runs, often working closely with the design and product development teams.
Maintain a comprehensive log of all cutting activities, tracking materials used, pieces cut, and time taken for each job to assist with production planning.
Adhere strictly to all workplace health and safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like cutting gloves.
