Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Assist senior designers in the creation and development of new textile prints, jacquards, and patterns, from initial sketch to digital rendering.
Conduct comprehensive research on seasonal fabric trends, emerging material technologies, sustainable innovations, and competitor offerings.
Manage and maintain the physical and digital fabric libraries, ensuring all swatches are accurately labeled, cataloged, and accessible for the design teams.
Prepare and dispatch lab dip requests, strike-offs, and handloom samples to vendors, meticulously tracking their progress and delivery dates.
Evaluate incoming fabric and print samples for quality, hand-feel, drape, color accuracy, and adherence to technical specifications.
Create and update detailed textile specification sheets and technical packages within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
Collaborate closely with the fashion design and product development teams to ensure selected textiles align with the aesthetic vision and functional requirements of the garments.
Utilize Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to clean, edit, and create repeating patterns for digital printing and screen production.
Prepare and assemble physical and digital presentation boards with fabric stories for internal design reviews, milestone meetings, and seasonal kick-offs.
Serve as a communication point with domestic and international mills and suppliers to follow up on sample development and troubleshoot minor issues.
Support the materials team by preparing fabrics for physical testing, such as shrinkage, crocking, pilling, and colorfastness tests.
Document the entire textile development process for each season, archiving key decisions and sample approvals for future reference.
Participate in garment fittings to observe how fabrics perform and to offer insights on material selection for future collections.
Research and catalog new and interesting dyeing techniques, printing methods, and finishing processes that could be integrated into future seasons.
Assist in sourcing complementary trims, buttons, and other components that align with the core fabric collection.

Secondary Functions

Support ad-hoc requests for fabric information and conduct exploratory analysis of material performance data for the wider team.
Contribute insights and research to help shape the department's material strategy and seasonal roadmap.
Act as a liaison between creative and technical teams, helping to translate design concepts into clear, actionable requirements for mills.
Participate actively in team meetings, sprint planning, and other agile ceremonies to gain a holistic view of the product creation timeline.
Provide general administrative support to the textile department, including organizing shipments, managing invoices, and scheduling meetings.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop and Illustrator, for pattern creation and manipulation.
Strong foundational knowledge of textile fundamentals, including fibers, yarn types, knit and woven constructions, and dyeing/printing processes.
A developed sense of color theory and the ability to create and critique color palettes.
Competency in creating seamless repeats for textile patterns.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for data tracking and presentations.
Experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software is a significant plus.
Basic understanding of textile testing procedures and quality assessment criteria.
