Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Skillfully set up and calibrate complex textile machinery (e.g., weaving looms, circular knitting machines, dyeing equipment) according to specific production orders and technical specifications.
- Load and thread raw materials like yarn, thread, and fiber cones onto machine feeders, ensuring proper tension and alignment to prevent defects.
- Continuously monitor machine operations, observing gauges, dials, and fabric output to detect any deviations from standard, such as yarn breaks, needle damage, or pattern inconsistencies.
- Perform immediate, on-the-spot adjustments to machine settings, such as speed, tension, and feed rates, to correct production issues and maintain product quality.
- Conduct thorough quality checks on finished or in-process fabric, identifying, flagging, and documenting defects like slubs, holes, dropped stitches, or color inconsistencies.
- Execute routine preventative maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and oiling machinery components to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Replace worn or broken machine parts, such as needles, sinkers, guides, and belts, following established procedures and safety protocols.
- Accurately interpret and follow detailed production run sheets, technical drawings, and work orders to ensure the correct style, color, and pattern are produced.
- Manage the doffing process by carefully removing completed rolls of fabric or finished textile products from the machine without causing damage.
- Maintain a consistent and efficient workflow to meet or exceed established production quotas and deadlines for each shift.
- Adhere strictly to all company and industry safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks or forklifts, to transport raw materials and finished goods to and from the production area.
- Troubleshoot and resolve common mechanical and operational issues, diagnosing problems to minimize machine downtime and scrap rates.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around the machinery, ensuring floors are free of debris, oil, and potential hazards.
Secondary Functions
- Meticulously complete and maintain detailed production records, logs, and reports, documenting output, downtime, and material usage for inventory and performance tracking.
- Collaborate effectively with shift supervisors, maintenance personnel, and quality control teams to report significant issues and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of new or less-experienced machine operators, sharing knowledge on machine setup, operation, and safety best practices.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives and team meetings, providing valuable feedback and suggestions for enhancing safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Support inventory management by conducting periodic counts of raw materials and finished products within the immediate work cell.
- Segregate and properly handle textile waste and scrap material according to company recycling and disposal guidelines.
