Primary Functions

Create, apply, and style wigs, facial hair, and hairpieces, ensuring they are secure, appear natural under stage lighting, and match the production's period and style.
Instruct actors on the proper techniques for self-application of basic makeup and, critically, the safe removal of all makeup and prosthetics post-show to maintain skin health.
Develop and maintain a production "makeup bible" containing detailed notes, photographs, and product lists for each character to ensure consistency across all performances and for understudies.
Conduct thorough research into historical periods, specific cultures, or artistic movements to inform and ensure the authenticity of makeup and hair designs.
Perform necessary touch-ups on performers before they go on stage and between scenes to counteract the effects of sweat, movement, and stage lighting.
Adapt makeup applications to work effectively with various lighting designs, ensuring features are visible and looks are not washed out from a distance.
