Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform detailed visual and dimensional inspections of internal and external threads on manufactured components to ensure they meet stringent quality standards.
- Utilize a wide array of precision measuring instruments, including thread micrometers, calipers, profilometers, thread plug gauges, and ring gauges, to accurately verify product specifications.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to understand critical dimensions, tolerances, and inspection criteria for each part.
- Operate and potentially program Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) or optical comparators to conduct advanced, automated inspections of thread forms and profiles.
- Meticulously document inspection results, recording pass/fail data, specific measurements, and any observed deviations from the required standards in quality logs or digital systems.
- Identify and clearly segregate non-conforming products, initiating non-conformance reports (NCRs) and collaborating with production teams to determine the root cause of defects.
- Conduct first-article, in-process, and final inspections to ensure quality is maintained throughout the entire manufacturing lifecycle of a component.
- Perform calibration and routine maintenance on inspection gauges and equipment to ensure their ongoing accuracy and reliability, maintaining calibration records as required.
- Communicate inspection findings and quality issues effectively with machine operators, supervisors, and quality engineers to facilitate immediate corrective actions.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and quality management system procedures, such as ISO 9001 or API Q1, to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
- Review and verify material certifications and outside processing documentation to ensure they align with job-specific requirements before proceeding with inspection.
- Generate comprehensive inspection reports and certificates of conformance for customers, providing clear evidence that products meet all specified requirements.
- Assist in the investigation of customer complaints or returned materials by re-inspecting parts and analyzing historical inspection data to identify potential process gaps.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting enhancements to inspection methods, processes, and documentation to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Provide critical feedback to the engineering and machining departments on manufacturability issues related to thread designs and tolerances observed during inspection.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area within the quality control lab or inspection station, following 5S or similar housekeeping principles.
- Train and mentor junior inspectors or machine operators on proper thread inspection techniques, gauge usage, and interpretation of standards.
- Manage the inventory and control of inspection gauges, ensuring that calibrated tools are readily available and that out-of-calibration tools are removed from service.
- Set up and verify gauging for production runs, ensuring that operators have the correct, calibrated tools to perform their own in-process checks.
- Perform specialized thread inspection procedures, such as checking for thread lead, pitch diameter, flank angle, and surface finish, using advanced metrology equipment.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)

- Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints and technical drawings.
- Solid understanding and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
