📈 Career Progression

Typical Career Path

Entry Point From:

  • General Production Worker
  • Warehouse Associate
  • Manufacturing Assistant

Advancement To:

  • Senior Machine Operator / Textile Machine Technician
  • Production Team Lead / Shift Supervisor
  • Quality Control Inspector

Lateral Moves:

  • Material Handler

  • Finishing Department Operator

Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Skillfully load and position yarn packages, such as cones or spools, onto the machine's creel rack according to specific production orders and patterns.
  • Expertly thread yarn from the creel through all machine guides, tensioners, and drop wires to the designated needle or loom position.
  • Diligently monitor the machinery during operation to immediately identify and repair any yarn breaks or tangles to minimize machine downtime.
  • Proficiently tie on new yarn ends to the ends of the expiring yarn packages using specific knots (like a weaver's knot) or an air splicer to ensure continuous operation.
  • Systematically patrol a designated set of machines, visually inspecting for potential issues, low yarn supply, or off-quality production.
  • Transport large quantities of yarn, both full and empty cones/bobbins, from the storage area to the production floor using carts, dollies, or pallet jacks.
  • Verify that the yarn lot numbers, colors, and types being loaded match the specifications outlined in the production run sheet.
  • Perform visual quality checks on the yarn before and during loading, identifying and removing any defects like slubs, knots, or contamination.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area around the machinery, clearing away empty cones, cardboard, and other waste materials to ensure a safe environment.
  • Assist machine operators with doffing (removing) completed rolls of fabric and preparing the machine for the next production run.
  • Accurately record production data, including yarn usage, downtime, and completed runs, into a logbook or a computerized tracking system.
  • Communicate effectively with machine operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel regarding production status, material needs, or machine malfunctions.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and procedures, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Change out needles, hooks, or other carrier elements as required by the production order or as part of routine machine maintenance.
  • Ensure proper tension is maintained on all yarn ends to prevent defects in the final product.
  • Identify and flag any non-conforming product and report it immediately to the Quality Control department or your direct supervisor.
  • Help troubleshoot minor machine stops related to the yarn feed system before escalating the issue to the maintenance team.
  • Manage the staging of yarn for upcoming production runs to ensure a smooth and efficient changeover between jobs.
  • Operate yarn splicing equipment to seamlessly join threads, ensuring the splice is strong and meets quality standards.
  • Remove and sort empty yarn cones and packaging materials for recycling or disposal according to company guidelines.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the maintenance team by preparing machines for preventative maintenance or repair, such as removing all yarn from the creel.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and continuous improvement programs aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and enhancing workplace safety.
  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to new Thread Loaders, demonstrating correct procedures and safety best practices.
  • Help manage and organize the yarn inventory within the immediate production area, ensuring FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles are followed.
