Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Meticulously apply specified sealing compounds, such as pipe dope, paste, or liquid sealants, to male and female threads, ensuring complete and even coverage for a leak-proof seal.
Expertly wrap Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tape or other specified sealing tapes onto pipe threads, adhering to correct wrapping direction and number of rotations.
Operate manual or automated threading machines to prepare pipes and fittings, ensuring threads are cut cleanly and to the correct specifications.
Conduct visual and tactile inspections of all threaded components before and after sealing to identify defects, such as cross-threading, burrs, or incomplete cuts.
Interpret and work from engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to understand the specific sealing requirements for each assembly.
Utilize a variety of hand and power tools, including pipe wrenches, vises, deburring tools, and torque wrenches, safely and effectively.
Prepare component surfaces prior to sealant application by cleaning, degreasing, and deburring pipe ends and fittings to ensure optimal adhesion.
Assemble and connect threaded components post-sealing, applying correct torque specifications to prevent over-tightening or damage.
Perform pressure or leak tests on sealed assemblies using air, water, or other media to verify the integrity of the connection.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following 5S principles and adhering to all company safety protocols and procedures.
Accurately document completed work, quality checks, and material usage on production logs or within a Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
Collaborate with the quality assurance team to report and troubleshoot any recurring sealing failures or component non-conformities.
Manage and maintain inventory of sealing materials, including various types of tapes, dopes, and adhesives, and report low stock levels.
Assist in the setup and calibration of machinery used in the threading and sealing process, performing minor preventative maintenance as required.
Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sealing applications to ensure consistency and repeatability across all products.
Handle and move raw materials and finished components, often involving lifting and maneuvering pipes and heavy fittings.
Identify opportunities for process improvement to increase efficiency, enhance quality, or improve safety within the sealing work cell.
Train and mentor new or less experienced team members on proper sealing techniques and safety standards.
Adhere to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, including wearing safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots at all times.
