Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Interpret architectural blueprints, shop drawings, and written specifications to fully understand project scope, tile layouts, patterns, and installation requirements.
Meticulously measure and mark surfaces to be tiled, calculating material needs and ensuring the layout is centered, balanced, and aesthetically correct.
Conduct thorough surface preparation, which includes removing old flooring, cleaning, scraping, and sanding surfaces to ensure they are smooth, dry, and free of debris.
Apply leveling compounds or install underlayment and backer board to create a flat, stable, and suitable substrate for tile installation.
Install critical waterproofing membranes, crack-isolation systems, and uncoupling mats in wet areas like showers, bathrooms, and steam rooms to prevent moisture damage.
Precisely cut and shape a variety of tile materials, including ceramic, porcelain, glass, and natural stone, using hand tools, wet saws, and grinders to fit around obstacles and create clean edges.
Mix thin-set mortar, epoxy, and other adhesives to the correct consistency according to manufacturer specifications and environmental conditions.
Evenly apply adhesives to surfaces using the appropriate notched trowel, ensuring proper coverage and creating a strong, lasting bond for the tile.
