Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Expertly perform the dismounting, mounting, and balancing of a wide variety of passenger, light truck, and performance tires using state-of-the-art equipment.
  • Conduct comprehensive tire inspections to accurately diagnose damage, tread wear, and potential failures, providing customers with clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Execute precise tire rotations and multi-point vehicle inspections to maximize tire life and identify potential safety or maintenance issues.
  • Skillfully perform industry-standard tire repairs, including patching and plugging, in strict adherence to TIA (Tire Industry Association) safety guidelines.
  • Diagnose, service, and reset Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS), including sensor replacement and reprogramming, to ensure full system functionality.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand their driving needs, educate them on tire options and proper maintenance, and recommend the best products and services for their vehicle.
  • Safely operate customer vehicles for test drives and for movement within the service facility, demonstrating the utmost respect for customer property at all times.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and alignment equipment to perform precise four-wheel alignments, ensuring optimal vehicle handling, safety, and tire longevity.
  • Maintain a deep, up-to-date knowledge of tire brands, models, and technologies to serve as a trusted subject matter expert for both customers and team members.
  • Adhere rigorously to all company safety protocols and procedures, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to foster a secure work environment.
  • Calibrate shop equipment regularly, including balancers and alignment racks, to ensure all measurements and adjustments are precise and accurate.
  • Provide roadside assistance for tire-related emergencies when required, demonstrating professionalism and efficiency in a field environment.
  • Participate in continuous training and certification programs to stay current with emerging automotive technologies, products, and service techniques.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain a meticulously clean, organized, and safe work environment in the service bays and tire storage areas, contributing to overall shop efficiency and professionalism.
  • Assist in managing the tire inventory, including receiving and stocking new shipments, performing cycle counts, and ensuring proper product organization.
  • Accurately document all services performed, parts used, and specific recommendations on digital or paper repair orders for clear record-keeping.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow technicians and service advisors to ensure a smooth workflow, timely job completion, and a cohesive, high-performing team.
  • Assist with basic automotive maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, and battery installations as dictated by shop demand.
  • Contribute to achieving team and store sales goals by proactively identifying service needs and effectively communicating the value of recommended maintenance.
  • Utilize point-of-sale and shop management software to look up customer history, create work orders, and track service progress.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, offering insights and feedback to improve processes, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Tire Mounting & Balancing: Proficiency with modern tire changing and balancing machines for various wheel sizes and types.
  • Wheel Alignment: Experience with computerized alignment systems and the ability to interpret alignment data to make precise adjustments.
  • TPMS Service & Diagnostics: Knowledge of TPMS relearn procedures, sensor replacement, and troubleshooting for various vehicle makes.
  • Tire Repair Expertise: Skilled in performing safe and durable tire repairs according to industry standards.
  • Vehicle Lifting & Jacking: Competency in safely operating automotive lifts, jacks, and jack stands.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate or Associate's Degree from a vocational or technical college in Automotive Technology.
  • TIA (Tire Industry Association) and/or ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications are highly desirable.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-3 years of direct, hands-on experience in a professional tire shop or automotive service center environment.

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience, including experience with advanced diagnostics, alignments, and working in a high-volume service center. Experience in a leadership or training capacity is a plus.
