Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Climb and work on various communication structures, including monopoles, self-supporting towers, and guyed towers, at heights often exceeding 100 feet.
- Perform the installation, replacement, and maintenance of telecommunications equipment, such as antennas, RRUs (Remote Radio Units), and TMAs (Tower Mounted Amplifiers).
- Execute the routing, securing, and weatherproofing of coaxial, fiber optic, and power cables according to carrier specifications and industry best practices.
- Conduct comprehensive structural modifications to towers, including the installation of reinforcement kits, sector frame mounts, and other hardware.
- Assemble and participate in the erection of new communication towers and structures from the ground up, following detailed engineering blueprints and rigging plans.
- Utilize specialized test equipment, such as PIM (Passive Intermodulation) and Sweep testers, to diagnose, troubleshoot, and certify antenna and line systems for optimal performance.
- Perform comprehensive site audits and inspections, meticulously documenting existing equipment, line and antenna configurations, and structural conditions for engineering review.
- Operate ground-based equipment, such as capstan hoists, man lifts, and skid steers, to facilitate the safe and efficient lifting of materials and equipment.
- Implement and strictly adhere to all company, client, and industry safety standards, including OSHA regulations, NATE CTS, and 100% tie-off policies at all times.
- Participate in the development and execution of rigging plans to ensure the safe hoisting and placement of heavy and sensitive equipment onto the tower.
- Install and maintain grounding systems (e.g., CAD welding, tower grounding, shelter grounding) for lightning protection to safeguard personnel and infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve RF (Radio Frequency), electrical, and mechanical issues on the tower, identifying faulty components and performing necessary repairs or replacements.
- Read and interpret complex construction drawings, RF data sheets, and schematics to ensure accurate installation and system configuration.
- Perform civil work as needed, including concrete pad installation, trenching for conduits, and setting up ice bridge and H-frames for cable support.
- Conduct pre- and post-installation testing and verification to ensure all systems are functioning according to the project's scope of work.
- Perform decommissioning of old sites, including the safe removal of legacy antennas, lines, and associated hardware from towers and rooftops.
- Complete detailed closeout packages for each project, which involves capturing high-resolution photos, completing checklists, and submitting all required digital documentation.
- Perform regular maintenance and documented inspections on all climbing gear, rigging equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure it is in safe, working order.
- Install, align, and troubleshoot microwave dish systems to establish point-to-point communication links.
- Work with a diverse range of hand and power tools to assemble, secure, and modify tower components and equipment.
