Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Meticulously classify products with accurate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Schedule B, and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN) to ensure regulatory adherence and duty optimization.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of import/export regulations, including those from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), and the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC).

- Prepare, review, and submit all necessary import and export documentation, such as commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and shipper's letters of instruction.
- Determine eligibility and manage the solicitation, issuance, and maintenance of certificates of origin for various Free Trade Agreements (e.g., USMCA, KORUS) to minimize duty liability.
- Screen transaction parties (customers, suppliers, vendors) against denied and restricted party lists to prevent dealings with sanctioned entities.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive record-keeping program for all trade-related documentation in accordance with statutory requirements, ensuring audit readiness.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies to resolve compliance issues, discrepancies, or inquiries swiftly and effectively.
- Investigate and prepare post-summary corrections, prior disclosures, and customs protests to rectify entry errors and recover overpaid duties.
- Conduct regular internal audits of trade compliance processes and transactions to identify potential risks, non-compliance issues, and areas for process improvement.
- Support the business by providing expert guidance on the import/export implications of new product introductions, sourcing changes, or entry into new international markets.
- Administer and update the company's trade compliance manual, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reflect changes in regulations and business practices.
- Determine export license requirements based on product classification, destination, end-user, and end-use, and prepare and submit license applications when necessary.
