Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Supervise, mentor, and lead a diverse team of in-house and freelance translators, reviewers, and linguists, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of multiple, concurrent translation and localization projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standard.
- Develop, document, and enforce linguistic quality standards, creating and maintaining comprehensive style guides, glossaries, and term bases for all target languages.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all translation-related inquiries from internal departments, including marketing, product, and legal.
- Strategically allocate and schedule translation tasks across the team and external vendors, monitoring progress and proactively managing project risks.
- Design and execute robust Linguistic Quality Assurance (LQA) programs, conducting regular checks on translated content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and cultural appropriateness.
- Manage and cultivate relationships with external translation agencies and freelance linguists, including selection, onboarding, rate negotiation, and performance evaluation.
- Oversee the administration and optimization of our Translation Management System (TMS), Translation Memory (TM), and terminology databases to maximize reuse and consistency.
- Provide regular, constructive, and actionable feedback to translators to support their professional development and continuously elevate the quality of their work.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and content creators to accurately define project scope, technical requirements, and efficient localization workflows from the outset.
- Act as the final escalation point for resolving complex linguistic and technical issues that arise during the translation and review process.
- Prepare and analyze detailed reports on key performance indicators, including translation volume, quality scores, turnaround times, and cost-per-word, to drive data-informed decisions.
- Continuously evaluate and refine translation workflows and processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall quality.
- Lead the linguistic readiness for new market entries, conducting research and ensuring all foundational content is perfectly adapted for the target locale.
- Stay at the forefront of the latest trends, tools, and technologies in the translation industry, including advancements in CAT tools, TMS, and Neural Machine Translation.
- Ensure all translated materials meticulously adhere to the company's brand voice, tone, and global messaging guidelines across all target markets.
- Manage the operational budget for the translation function, including forecasting for freelance costs, software licenses, and vendor expenditures.
- Plan and facilitate ongoing training sessions for the linguistic team on new tools, quality protocols, style guide updates, and industry best practices.
- Develop and manage a rigorous testing and vetting process for onboarding new freelance translators and linguistic vendor partners.
- Act as a key consultant on language and culture, providing critical insights to cross-functional teams to inform global product design and marketing campaigns.
- Coordinate effectively with localization engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve file-formatting, encoding, or platform-specific issues that impact the translation process.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Expert-level proficiency in multiple Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools (e.g., Trados Studio, MemoQ, Phrase/Memsource, Wordfast).
- Deep, hands-on experience with enterprise-level Translation Management Systems (TMS) such as WorldServer, XTM Cloud, Smartling, or Crowdin.
- Comprehensive understanding of localization project management and engineering workflows, including file parsing, preparation, and DTP cycles.
- Proven ability to manage, maintain, and leverage linguistic assets, including Translation Memories (TMs) and Term Bases (TBs), to drive consistency and efficiency.
- Solid experience with formal Linguistic Quality Assurance (LQA) models, metrics, and tools (e.g., MQM, DQF).
- Strong working knowledge of Machine Translation (MT) and Machine Translation Post-Editing (MTPE) workflows, standards, and best practices.
- Fluency in English and at least one other language at a native or near-native level.
