Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Oversee and direct all daily transportation operations, including routing, dispatching, and tracking of shipments to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.

- Negotiate contracts, rates, and service level agreements with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight carriers, and other transportation vendors to secure optimal value.
- Analyze and optimize transportation routes to minimize transit times, reduce fuel consumption, and lower operational costs, often using advanced routing software.
- Direct the comprehensive maintenance, repair, and replacement schedule for the entire vehicle fleet to maximize uptime, ensure driver safety, and maintain regulatory compliance.
- Develop, manage, and meticulously report on the transport department's budget, tracking all expenditures and identifying key opportunities for cost savings and avoidance.
- Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery performance, cost-per-mile, vehicle utilization, and driver safety metrics.
- Champion and enforce health and safety protocols within the department, conducting risk assessments and ensuring all staff are trained to minimize accidents and injuries.
- Master the use of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to effectively plan, execute, and optimize the physical movement of goods from origin to destination.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving operational issues, such as delivery exceptions, vehicle breakdowns, or customer complaints, in a swift and professional manner.
- Collaborate closely with key internal departments, including warehouse, procurement, sales, and customer service, to foster a seamless and integrated supply chain.
- Prepare and present detailed, regular reports to senior management on transportation performance, budget adherence, key trends, and strategic initiatives.
- Lead the investigation and formal reporting of all vehicle accidents and safety incidents, implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Manage the procurement of new vehicles, trailers, and other transportation equipment by conducting thorough cost-benefit analyses and presenting recommendations to leadership.
- Conduct regular, systematic audits of driver logs, vehicle inspection reports, and other compliance documentation to ensure 100% accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Stay current with emerging industry trends, innovative technologies (like telematics and AI in logistics), and evolving regulations to drive continuous improvement.
- Manage the dynamic allocation and utilization of all transport resources, including vehicles, drivers, and equipment, to meet fluctuating daily operational demands.
- Develop and cultivate strong, lasting relationships with key customers and suppliers to deeply understand their needs and align transportation services accordingly.
