Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop, implement, and optimize daily and weekly transport schedules, including route planning and load consolidation to maximize efficiency and on-time delivery performance.
- Oversee the daily activities and performance of the driving team, providing clear instructions, work assignments, and performance feedback to ensure compliance with company policies.
- Act as the primary liaison between drivers, the warehouse team, and customer service to resolve any delivery issues, delays, or customer inquiries in real-time.
- Monitor all transport movements using GPS tracking systems and fleet management software, proactively identifying and addressing potential disruptions.
- Ensure the entire vehicle fleet is maintained in a safe, compliant, and roadworthy condition by scheduling regular preventative maintenance, servicing, and required inspections (e.g., MOT, DOT).
- Manage and meticulously document all transport-related paperwork, including driver logs, delivery notes, vehicle inspection reports, and fuel receipts, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Analyze transportation costs, including fuel consumption, maintenance expenses, and driver overtime, to identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational improvement.
- Guarantee full compliance with all local, national, and international transportation laws and regulations, including driver hour restrictions, vehicle weight limits, and hazardous materials transport rules.
- Coordinate the response to any vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or emergencies, implementing contingency plans to minimize operational impact and ensure driver safety.
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight forwarders, and other external transport vendors, including negotiation of rates and service level agreements.
- Conduct regular safety briefings and training sessions for drivers on topics such as defensive driving, manual handling, and regulatory updates.
- Prepare and present regular operational reports to management, detailing key performance indicators (KPIs) like on-time performance, cost-per-mile, and vehicle utilization.
- Source and procure necessary transport equipment, parts, and services, managing supplier relationships and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Handle the allocation of vehicles and drivers to specific jobs based on load requirements, geographical location, and driver availability.
- Investigate and resolve any customer complaints or feedback related to transportation and delivery services, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
