Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely and proficiently operate a powered industrial tugger or tow tractor to transport materials, supplies, and finished products between loading docks, processing areas, and storage locations.
- Execute "milk runs" by following a predetermined route to deliver parts and supplies to various production lines and work cells, ensuring a continuous flow of materials.
- Utilize RF (Radio Frequency) scanners and other handheld devices to accurately track the movement of inventory, update the Warehouse Management System (WMS), and record transactions.
- Perform daily pre-shift and post-shift safety inspections on the tugger vehicle, including checking brakes, lights, horns, and battery levels, and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to a supervisor immediately.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and traffic patterns within the facility to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage.
- Load and unload materials from trailers, carts, and dollies, ensuring proper handling, stacking, and securing of loads to prevent damage.
- Attach and detach various carts and trailers to the tugger in a safe and secure manner, verifying that all connections are solid before movement.
- Interpret work orders, pick lists, or verbal instructions from supervisors to determine which materials need to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
- Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of all required components to their designated points of use to prevent any downtime in production or assembly.
- Communicate effectively with line leads, supervisors, and other team members regarding material shortages, delivery status, and any potential workflow interruptions.
- Monitor the flow of parts and materials, anticipating needs for upcoming production runs and proactively replenishing stock.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of materials handled, routes completed, and other operational data as required.
- Manage the removal and transport of empty containers, dunnage, and scrap materials from production areas to designated recycling or disposal zones.
Secondary Functions
- Assist with physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and audits to help maintain inventory accuracy and control.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
- Operate other material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks or forklifts, as needed and if certified.
- Provide support to shipping and receiving departments by staging finished goods or incoming materials.
- Participate actively in team meetings, safety briefings, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance warehouse efficiency and safety.
- Report any product damage, quality issues, or inventory discrepancies to the appropriate team leader or manager.
- Perform battery changes or connect the tugger to charging stations according to established procedures to ensure equipment readiness.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Operation: Proven experience and certification in operating a tugger, tow tractor, or similar vehicle. Forklift certification is a plus.
- RF Scanner Proficiency: Experience using handheld RF scanning devices for tracking inventory and executing work orders.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of experience operating a tugger or other powered industrial truck in a fast-paced manufacturing, distribution, or warehouse environment.
Preferred: 2+ years of dedicated tugger operation experience, particularly within an automotive or just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing setting. Prior certification on multiple types of material handling equipment is highly desirable.
