Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, update, and deliver comprehensive didactic and laboratory curriculum for Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs (including abdominal, OB/GYN, small parts, vascular, and echocardiography) aligned with ARDMS/CAAHEP accreditation standards and current industry best practices.
  • Demonstrate hands-on ultrasound scanning techniques in lab and clinical settings, teaching probe handling, transducer selection, Doppler and spectral analysis, image optimization, and sonographic anatomy to ensure students achieve competency-based learning outcomes.
  • Design and grade formative and summative assessments, practical competency checklists, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), and written exams; provide timely feedback, remediation plans, and documentation of student progress in the LMS.
  • Supervise and precept students during clinical rotations at affiliated hospitals and outpatient imaging centers, coordinating schedules, clinical competencies, and ensuring adherence to clinical site policies, patient safety, and HIPAA privacy regulations.
  • Maintain and verify student clinical competency logs, clinical hour verifications, and documentation required for graduation and registry eligibility, working directly with clinical affiliates to confirm case types and volumes meet program requirements.
  • Lead orientation sessions and onboarding for new students, including infection control practices, patient communication, professional standards, and safety protocols including proper use of PPE and ultrasound equipment cleaning procedures.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to collect, analyze, and present programmatic data (student outcomes, pass rates, job placement, clinical competency attainment) to support continuous quality improvement and accreditation reporting.
  • Create and implement remediation and individualized learning plans for students who are underperforming, including targeted skills labs, additional clinical coaching, and measurable outcome tracking.
  • Maintain active professional credentials (ARDMS/RDMS/RDCS/RVT or equivalent), participate in continuing medical education, and model lifelong learning for students by integrating current literature, evidence-based practice, and emerging ultrasound technologies into teaching.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiologic Technology, or a related allied health field PLUS current professional registry (ARDMS / RDMS / RDCS / RVT) and significant clinical experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Sciences, Medical Education, Nursing, or a related field. Graduate-level coursework or certification in education or instructional design is highly desirable.
