Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive incoming, in-process, and final inspections of uniform garments and accessories using visual assessment, dimensional measurement, and functional testing to verify conformance with design specifications, size charts, patterns, and quality standards.
- Perform AQL-based sampling and statistical inspection procedures for batches of uniforms, calculate sample sizes, apply acceptance/rejection criteria, and document results in inspection reports and quality databases.
- Classify and record defects by type, severity, and location (e.g., fabric flaws, color variation, stitching issues, hardware failures, labeling mistakes) and determine disposition (accept, repair, rework, or reject).
- Verify dimensional accuracy and fit points (lengths, widths, sleeve lengths, crotch, waist) using calibrated measurement tools (tapes, calipers, templates) and report out-of-tolerance conditions to production.
- Inspect and validate labeling, hangtags, care labels, barcodes, size markers, and regulatory markings to ensure compliance with client and legal requirements.
- Assess fabric quality and color consistency using visual light boxes and color comparison tools; document dye lot variation and tag affected lots for segregation.
- Check seam construction, stitch density, seam integrity, and thread security to ensure garments meet strength and durability specifications.
- Monitor implementation of approved trims, hardware, zippers, buttons, and fasteners; confirm correct placement, functionality, and secure attachment.
- Execute packaging and packing inspections to confirm correct folding, hanger usage, polybagging, carton packing, and box labeling to meet shipping standards and prevent transit damage.
- Create detailed inspection reports and non-conformance reports (NCRs) with photos, measurement data, serial/batch identifiers, and recommended corrective actions for both the production floor and suppliers.
- Escalate critical quality issues and production holds to Quality Supervisors and Production Managers, coordinating immediate containment actions to prevent defective goods from shipping.
- Work directly with suppliers, factory quality teams, and production supervisors to troubleshoot root causes, implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), and verify effectiveness through re-inspection.
- Perform inline audits and random spot checks during key manufacturing processes (cutting, sewing, finishing) to detect early-stage defects and reduce downstream rework.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, traceability documentation, and sample retention logs in accordance with company policy and audit requirements (ISO, customer audits).
- Participate in internal and external quality audits, supporting evidence gathering, audit follow-up, and corrective action implementation to maintain compliance with certifications and customer standards.
- Calibrate, maintain, and request service for inspection instruments and gauges; ensure tools are within calibration schedules and safe to use.
- Train and mentor operators and junior inspectors on inspection criteria, defect identification, measurement techniques, AQL acceptance, and correct documentation practices.
- Implement and support quality improvement projects (5S, Kaizen, root cause analysis) to reduce defect rates, improve first-time pass, and enhance production efficiency.
- Verify finished garment functionality tests (pocket integrity, zipper operation, strap adjustments) and ensure specialty requirements (flame-retardant treatment, antimicrobial finishes) are properly documented and tested where applicable.
- Liaise with logistics and warehouse teams to coordinate the segregation, labeling, and disposition of rejected or reworked inventory and to ensure accurate stock records.
- Ensure continuous communication with customer service and account managers when nonconforming shipments affect delivery schedules and provide remediation plans to minimize customer impact.
- Support pre-shipment inspections (PSI) and final random inspections (FRI) at third-party warehouses or supplier sites, preparing shipment release recommendations based on inspection outcomes.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain and update inspection checklists, technical files, and work instructions to reflect specification changes, customer feedback, and continuous improvement outcomes.
- Participate in new product introduction (NPI) and pre-production sample approvals by assessing proto-samples for fit, construction, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Assist in root cause investigations and supplier corrective action (SCAR) processes by collecting evidence, running tests, and validating corrective measures.
- Support cross-functional teams (design, merchandising, sourcing) by providing inspection insights and feasibility feedback to reduce downstream defects and rework.
- Help maintain the quality management system by logging nonconformances, following CAPA timelines, and contributing evidence for ISO or other compliance audits.
- Conduct periodic supplier performance reviews and report quality metrics (defects per million, yield rates, AQL trends) to the sourcing and supplier development teams.
- Manage retained sample inventory for dispute resolution and warranty claims, ensuring samples are clearly indexed, stored, and retrievable.
- Support scheduling of external laboratory testing (physical, chemical, flammability) and ensure chain-of-custody documentation is complete.
