Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute comprehensive pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight operational procedures and safety checks on unmanned aircraft systems to ensure mission readiness and airworthiness.

- Perform routine and preventative maintenance, inspections, and minor field repairs on the unmanned aircraft, ground control stations, and sensor payloads to ensure optimal performance.
- Manage the initial processing, organization, and quality control of collected aerial data, ensuring it meets project specifications before handover to data processing teams.
- Serve as the remote Pilot in Command (PIC), taking ultimate responsibility for the safety of the aircraft, crew, and any persons or property on the ground throughout the operation.
- Conduct thorough site surveys and risk assessments prior to flight operations to identify and mitigate potential hazards, including obstacles, electromagnetic interference, and public safety concerns.
- Continuously monitor real-time weather and environmental conditions, making informed go/no-go decisions to guarantee safe and effective flight operations.
- Expertly troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues with the aircraft, control software, and peripheral equipment in the field, implementing effective solutions to minimize mission downtime.
- Interface professionally with clients, project managers, and ground teams to communicate mission status, operational constraints, and preliminary findings.
- Manage all logistics of deploying to and operating from various, often remote, job sites, including the secure transportation of equipment and coordination of ground support.
- Operate and maintain a range of sophisticated sensor payloads, including high-resolution RGB cameras, LiDAR scanners, and thermal imagers, ensuring proper configuration and data acquisition.
- Prepare and submit detailed post-mission reports that summarize flight activities, data collected, equipment performance, and any incidents or noteworthy observations.
- Maintain a robust inventory and management system for all UAS assets, including airframes, batteries, propellers, and ground support equipment to ensure accountability and readiness.
- Proactively contribute to the development, review, and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and emergency protocols for the organization's UAS program.
- Uphold and champion a strong safety culture by applying Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles and actively participating in safety briefings and post-mission debriefings.
- Coordinate directly with Air Traffic Control (ATC) and other relevant airspace authorities when operating in controlled or complex airspace to ensure deconfliction and safe integration.
- Secure and manage necessary airspace authorizations and waivers through FAA systems like LAANC and DroneZone for operations requiring special permission.
Secondary Functions
- Support data processing teams by providing context for collected data and assisting with initial quality assurance checks.
