  • Perform complex hand-stitching, tacking, blind-stitching, and ladder stitching for areas that require precision finishing, tailored corners, or invisible closures.
  • Install and finish trim, welting, piping, zippers, buttons, tufting, and decorative nailhead or braid applications with consistent spacing and alignment.
  • Repair and reupholster furniture by removing old fabric, assessing frame and suspension condition, repairing or replacing webbing, springs, and foam, and reinstalling new coverings with professional fit and finish.
  • Build and apply foam cores, sculpt foam shapes, glue and laminate foam layers, and recover cushions to restore original comfort and support characteristics.
  • Create and maintain accurate production documentation, including work orders, material usage logs, cut lists, and quality inspection checklists for traceability and cost control.
  • Collaborate with designers, estimators, and project managers to develop prototypes, mock-ups, and samples for client approval, offering practical recommendations for materials and construction methods.
  • Estimate labor hours and material costs for custom jobs, provide input for quotes, and communicate lead times and production schedules to sales teams and customers.
  • Perform on-site measurements and installations when required, coordinating transport, installation sequences, and final adjustments to ensure correct fit and finish in the client environment.

  • Adhere to workplace health and safety standards, including safe handling of adhesives, solvents, cutting equipment, and heavy materials, and maintain an organized, clean workspace to reduce hazards.
  • Conduct quality control inspections at critical production stages and before shipment or installation, identifying imperfections, loose stitching, fabric defects, or mismatched patterns and making corrections.
  • Train junior seamstresses, apprentices, and production staff on sewing techniques, machine operation, pattern layout, and best practices to improve overall team capability and throughput.
  • Source and evaluate suppliers for fabrics, trims, foams, and hardware, maintain material inventories, and place orders to ensure continuity of production and adherence to budget.
  • Keep abreast of fabric technologies, upholstery trends, sustainable materials, and new sewing or finishing techniques to continuously improve craftsmanship and product offerings.
  • Communicate clearly with customers and production teams regarding design modifications, fabric behavior, and realistic expectations to ensure customer satisfaction and reduce rework.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc repairs and small-batch production runs, providing rapid turnaround solutions for urgent client requests.
