Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Own the end-to-end usability research program for one or more product areas, including research planning, participant recruitment, study execution, analysis, synthesis, and delivery of actionable recommendations that influence product roadmaps and UX direction.
  • Design and run mixed-methods research studies (moderated and unmoderated usability testing, remote and in-person sessions, surveys, diary studies, contextual inquiry) to validate hypotheses and discover latent user needs.
  • Translate research outcomes into clear, prioritized product recommendations and success metrics, and work directly with Product Managers and Designers to convert insights into experiments, feature requirements, and design iterations.
  • Lead and mentor a team of UX researchers—setting individual development plans, conducting performance reviews, coaching on research craft, and creating career growth opportunities and a feedback culture.
  • Establish and evolve research operations and best practices (research repository, participant panels, tooling, templates, and workflows) to increase throughput and ensure consistent, reproducible results across projects.
  • Partner with data science and analytics teams to integrate quantitative signals (analytics, event data, A/B test results) with qualitative insights to build a holistic evidence base for product decisions.
  • Advocate at the executive level for a user-centered product roadmap by synthesizing cross-study findings into strategic narratives, presentations, and investment cases that influence leadership decisions.
  • Prioritize research work in collaboration with cross-functional partners, balancing discovery, evaluation, and generative research to align with quarterly objectives and critical product milestones.

  • Champion evidence-based decision-making by training product and design teams on how to read research outputs, interpret findings, and translate them into product experiments and success metrics.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, Sociology, Human Factors, or a related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s or PhD in HCI, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, Anthropology, Design Research, or similar disciplines preferred for senior roles.
