Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead the definition and evolution of a cross-platform UX strategy and architecture that aligns product roadmaps with measurable business outcomes, customer needs, and technical constraints.
  • Conduct and synthesize mixed-methods user research (qualitative interviews, contextual inquiry, usability testing, surveys) to establish user needs, pain points, and opportunity areas that directly inform product strategy and design direction.
  • Create and maintain scalable information architectures, content models, navigation taxonomies, and interaction patterns that reduce cognitive load and improve task completion rates across web and native applications.
  • Design, prototype, and iterate high-fidelity interaction models and flows, translating product requirements and technical constraints into usable, accessible, and responsive experiences.
  • Develop, document, and govern a consistent design system and pattern library (components, tokens, guidelines) to ensure UX consistency, accelerate delivery, and support cross-team reuse.
  • Lead cross-functional discovery and design thinking workshops to align stakeholders on user goals, journey maps, success metrics, and minimum lovable product features.
  • Define and implement UX metrics and KPIs (task success rate, time-on-task, NPS, SUS, conversion funnels) and partner with analytics teams to instrument experiments and dashboards that measure experience impact.
  • Plan and execute moderated and unmoderated usability testing, synthesize findings into actionable recommendations, and track improvements across product releases.
  • Create personas, user journeys, experience maps, and service blueprints to communicate context, motivations, and cross-channel moments that matter across the organization.
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to create clear UX acceptance criteria, ensure design intent is implemented accurately, and balance trade-offs between user needs and technical feasibility.
  • Advocate for and embed accessibility (WCAG 2.1/2.2) and inclusive design principles into product specifications, perform audits, and partner with engineering to remediate accessibility issues.
  • Provide architecture-level wireframes, interactive prototypes, and specifications using industry tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure) to accelerate validation and handoffs.
  • Establish and maintain UX governance practices, design review rituals, and contribution workflows that scale with product and team growth.
  • Own end-to-end UX documentation including IA diagrams, component usage guidance, interaction states, and design rationale to reduce ambiguity and technical debt.
  • Lead research synthesis and insight-sharing across teams to inform product prioritization, backlog grooming, and strategic planning.
  • Drive A/B testing strategy in tandem with product analytics to validate experience changes, optimize conversion points, and reduce churn.
  • Mentor and coach product designers and junior UX staff on systems thinking, experimentation, accessibility, and evidence-based design.
  • Coordinate cross-team dependencies for multi-release initiatives, flag risks early, and recommend mitigations that preserve UX quality and delivery timelines.
  • Translate regulatory, security, and data/privacy requirements into user-centered flows that minimize friction while ensuring compliance.
  • Partner with content strategists and UX writers to define content hierarchy, tone, microcopy best practices, and content governance for consistent user messaging.
  • Ensure mobile-first and responsive design principles are enforced across breakpoints, mapping interactions and performance expectations for native apps and web.
  • Maintain a research repository and design decision log to ensure institutional knowledge is captured, searchable, and leveraged across projects.
  • Facilitate stakeholder alignment on persona-driven roadmaps, value propositions, and prototype validation criteria to accelerate decision-making and reduce rework.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and industry benchmarking to surface innovation opportunities and threats, informing strategic product and UX roadmap decisions.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc UX research and rapid prototype validation to unblock teams and inform sprint-level decisions.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Expert-level information architecture and experience mapping: ability to create scalable IA, navigation taxonomies, and content models for complex products.
  • Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (Figma preferred, plus Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure) and strong file-organization and version-control practices.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining enterprise design systems and component libraries, including design tokens, accessibility specs, and cross-platform implementations.
  • Strong facilitation of user research methods: moderated usability testing, remote unmoderated testing, contextual inquiry, card sorting, tree testing, and survey design.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology, Information Science, or related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Human Factors, Information Architecture, or MBA with UX-related coursework is a plus.
  • Certifications in UX research, accessibility (IAAP CPACC/ WAS), or design systems are beneficial.
