Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Own end-to-end planning and delivery of UX initiatives, creating clear project plans, milestones, success metrics, and communication cadences that align UX activities with product and business goals.
  • Translate strategic product objectives and user research into prioritized UX backlogs, user stories, acceptance criteria, and readiness definitions for design and engineering teams.
  • Lead cross-functional, cross-domain workshops (e.g., discovery, alignment, story mapping, design sprints) to surface user needs, define scope, and converge on solutions with product, engineering, research, and business stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and sequence research activities (generative and evaluative), ensuring recruitment, study design, synthesis, and insights are mapped to actionable recommendations and roadmaps.
  • Manage delivery of wireframes, prototypes, user flows, visual specs, and design system components, ensuring handoffs are complete, versioned, and developer-ready.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for project timelines, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs, proactively removing blockers and escalating when needed.
  • Facilitate agile ceremonies relevant to design delivery (e.g., UX planning, refinement, demo, retrospective) and ensure alignment between sprint commitments and design capacity.
  • Build and maintain project artifacts (roadmaps, RACI matrices, stakeholder maps, decision logs) that provide transparency and keep distributed teams aligned.
  • Define, track, and report UX-specific KPIs and success metrics (usability scores, task completion, time-on-task, conversion lift, accessibility compliance) and present outcomes to executives and cross-functional partners.
  • Maintain and evolve the design system governance: prioritize contributions, coordinate component development, and ensure consistent adoption across products.
  • Manage vendor and agency relationships for research, usability testing, and design services, including scope definition, procurement, and performance oversight.
  • Partner with engineering leads to align on technical feasibility, development estimates, and release plans; facilitate technical design reviews impacting UX.
  • Drive continuous improvement of UX processes by documenting best practices, playbooks, templates, and reuse patterns to speed up delivery and improve quality.
  • Champion accessibility (WCAG) and inclusive design practices across product teams, coordinating audits, remediation plans, and QA checks pre-release.
  • Lead risk management activities for UX projects, maintaining contingency plans for scope changes, resourcing constraints, or QA regressions.
  • Coordinate multi-product or multi-release programs, aligning roadmaps and prioritization across teams to deliver cohesive user journeys.
  • Manage UX project budgets, resource allocation, contractor engagements, and timeline forecasts, ensuring efficient use of design and research capacity.
  • Collaborate with analytics and data teams to instrument experiments and track behavioral metrics that validate design hypotheses and inform iterative improvements.
  • Coach and mentor junior UX staff and designers on project management best practices, stakeholder communication, and career development.
  • Prepare and deliver executive-level updates, status reports, and post-launch retrospectives that highlight user impact, ROI, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure high-quality handoff to engineering by verifying design specs, accessibility notes, edge cases, and acceptance criteria are documented and testable.
  • Drive stakeholder alignment across Product, Marketing, Legal, Security, and Operations during design reviews and release planning to reduce rework and compliance risk.
  • Facilitate release and roll-out activities including phased launches, feature toggles, training materials for internal teams, and post-launch monitoring plans.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc user research and rapid usability testing to answer tactical product questions and unblock design decisions.
  • Maintain and curate UX documentation repositories, pattern libraries, and design asset libraries to accelerate team onboarding and consistency.
  • Contribute to the organization’s UX strategy and roadmap by surfacing research trends, competitive insights, and prioritized opportunities.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate product requirements into design experiments and measurable UX hypotheses.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within product and engineering teams to ensure UX work is sequenced and tracked.
  • Assist recruiting efforts for UX and research hires by developing role profiles, screening candidates, and participating in interviews.
  • Support the analytics team by defining instrumentation requirements for UX experiments and A/B tests.
  • Run periodic UX health checks and accessibility audits, coordinating remediation actions with product and engineering owners.
  • Create executive-ready artifacts (one-pagers, business cases, cost-benefit analyses) to secure funding or cross-functional buy-in for major UX initiatives.
  • Help define onboarding and training programs for product teams adopting design system components or new UX processes.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Agile and Scrum project management proficiency; experience running design-specific sprint cadences and backlog grooming.
  • Hands-on familiarity with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision, or Axure for reviewing and validating deliverables.
  • Strong knowledge of usability testing methodologies, remote and in-person testing platforms (Lookback, UserTesting, Maze), and qualitative synthesis techniques.
  • Experience with design systems: component lifecycle management, versioning, documentation, and developer collaboration.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Psychology, Computer Science, Information Architecture, Business, or a related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master's degree in HCI, Design Management, Interaction Design, or an MBA with product/UX focus.
  • Project management or agile certifications (PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM) and/or UX certifications (NN/g UX Certification, UXPA).
