Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Safely and accurately administer a wide range of vaccines to diverse patient populations, including infants, children, and adults, strictly adhering to established clinical protocols, standing orders, and age-specific guidelines.
Meticulously manage and maintain vaccine inventory levels, including conducting regular stock counts, forecasting needs, and ordering new supplies through state and federal portals to ensure uninterrupted service.
Oversee the complete lifecycle of vaccine inventory, from receiving and unpacking shipments to meticulously tracking lot numbers and expiration dates using a first-in, first-out (FIFO) system to prevent waste.
Provide clear, culturally competent, and compassionate patient education regarding vaccine benefits, potential side effects, and post-immunization care, ensuring patients and guardians can provide informed consent.
Diligently and accurately document all vaccination events in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and state-level Immunization Information Systems (IIS), ensuring data integrity for patient records and public health reporting.
Maintain and continuously monitor specialized vaccine storage units (refrigerators and freezers), performing and logging twice-daily temperature checks to guarantee the cold chain is uncompromised.
Execute immediate and appropriate corrective actions in response to temperature excursions or storage equipment failures, following CDC guidelines for assessing vaccine viability and reporting incidents to leadership.
Prepare and organize vaccine clinics, both on-site and in community settings, by assembling necessary supplies, preparing vaccination stations, and ensuring proper pre-and post-clinic procedures are followed.
Screen patients for contraindications and precautions prior to administering vaccines, reviewing patient histories and utilizing screening questionnaires effectively.
Generate and analyze regular inventory reports, identifying trends in vaccine usage, projecting future needs, and preparing data for compliance audits and program review.
Manage the return and disposal of expired or compromised vaccines according to state, federal, and manufacturer protocols, maintaining precise documentation for accountability.
Assist in the onboarding and training of new staff, volunteers, or students on vaccine administration, storage, handling, and documentation procedures.
Conduct quality assurance checks on data entered into the IIS and EHR to identify and correct errors, ensuring the highest level of data accuracy.
Prepare vaccine doses for administration, demonstrating proficiency in sterile technique, proper reconstitution of lyophilized vaccines, and drawing correct dosages into syringes.
Respond to vaccine-related inquiries from patients, healthcare providers, and community partners, serving as a knowledgeable resource on immunization schedules and program details.

Required Skills & Competencies
