Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Directly supervise, train, and mentor a team of research associates and junior scientists, overseeing their day-to-day laboratory activities and professional development.
- Lead the design, execution, and troubleshooting of complex immunological and virological experiments to evaluate vaccine candidates, including in vitro and in vivo studies.
- Oversee the development, qualification, and validation of a wide range of bioanalytical assays, such as ELISA, neutralizing antibody assays, ELISpot, flow cytometry, and cell-based functional assays.
- Manage laboratory operations, including resource planning, budget oversight, maintenance of critical equipment, and procurement of reagents and consumables to ensure seamless workflow.
- Ensure all experimental work, data recording, and reporting are conducted in strict compliance with internal quality standards and external regulatory guidelines (e.g., GLP, GCLP).
- Take a leading role in the analysis, interpretation, and synthesis of complex scientific data, utilizing statistical tools to draw robust conclusions and guide next steps for the research program.
- Author and review critical technical documentation, including detailed study protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and comprehensive technical reports.
- Actively manage project timelines and deliverables for the team, coordinating with project management to ensure research activities are aligned with overall program goals and deadlines.
- Serve as a primary scientific and technical point of contact, presenting clear and concise research findings, progress updates, and strategic recommendations to cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Lead efforts in identifying and implementing new technologies, methodologies, and instrumentation to enhance the laboratory's scientific capabilities and efficiency.
- Drive the technical transfer of validated assays and key processes from the research environment to development, quality control, or external contract research organizations (CROs).
- Provide scientific leadership and hands-on guidance for preclinical animal studies, including study design, coordination with vivarium staff, and ex vivo sample analysis.
- Foster a culture of scientific rigor, safety, and accountability within the team, ensuring adherence to all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) protocols.
- Critically evaluate scientific literature and competitor landscape to inform research strategy and propose novel approaches for vaccine design and evaluation.
- Play a key role in the preparation of documents for regulatory submissions (e.g., IND, BLA), providing essential preclinical data and scientific justification.
