Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct thorough patient screenings and review health histories to assess eligibility for vaccination, identifying any contraindications or precautions.

  • Educate patients and caregivers on post-vaccination care, including monitoring for common side effects and understanding the signs of a potential adverse reaction.
  • Monitor patients in the post-vaccination observation area, prepared to recognize and respond to adverse reactions, including vasovagal syncope or anaphylaxis.
  • Manage and maintain the integrity of the vaccine supply by adhering to strict cold chain storage and handling protocols, including regular temperature monitoring and documentation.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inventory counts of vaccines and associated medical supplies, placing orders as needed to prevent shortages.
  • Prepare and organize the vaccination station or clinic space before the start of each day, ensuring all necessary supplies and emergency equipment are stocked and accessible.
  • Properly dispose of all biohazardous waste, including used needles and syringes, in accordance with OSHA and facility-specific safety guidelines.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to medical emergencies by initiating emergency protocols, administering basic life support (BLS), and assisting emergency medical personnel.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, creating a welcoming and reassuring environment for patients who may have anxiety about injections.
  • Verify patient identity and insurance information to ensure accurate billing and record-keeping for administered immunizations.
  • Stay current with the latest immunization schedules, recommendations from the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and state-specific vaccination requirements.
  • Participate in off-site vaccination clinics, including setup, breakdown, and all clinical and administrative functions in a mobile environment.
