As the Value Stream Manager, you are the "CEO" of your assigned product family or process stream. You will have full ownership and accountability for the value stream's performance, from strategic planning to daily execution. Your mission is to create a seamless, efficient flow of value to the customer by relentlessly eliminating waste and fostering a robust culture of continuous improvement. This role requires a transformational leader who can integrate cross-functional teams, including production, quality, maintenance, engineering, and supply chain, to achieve breakthrough results in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale (SQDCM).

Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and coordinate the entire value stream's activities, from raw material planning to final product shipment, ensuring full alignment with customer demand and overarching business objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine the future state Value Stream Map (VSM) to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities that drive significant gains in flow and efficiency.
  • Champion a pervasive culture of continuous improvement by actively leading and coaching the organization in Lean methodologies, including Kaizen, 5S, Standard Work, TPM, and problem-solving.
  • Drive daily operational performance through a structured daily management system (DMS), including Gemba walks, tiered accountability meetings, and visual management boards.
  • Assume full P&L responsibility for the value stream, developing annual budgets, managing operational costs, and driving financial performance to meet or exceed targets.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment by championing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring all team members adhere to EHS standards.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of supervisors, leads, and front-line associates, fostering talent development, engagement, and clear succession planning.
  • Translate customer requirements and demand forecasts into actionable production schedules and capacity plans to ensure exceptional on-time delivery performance.
  • Collaborate strategically with supply chain, procurement, and logistics partners to optimize material flow, manage inventory levels (WIP, raw, finished goods), and reduce lead times.
  • Oversee production scheduling and resource allocation to ensure equipment, materials, and personnel are available to meet production goals without compromising quality.
  • Lead the implementation and sustainment of standardized work across all processes to reduce variability, improve quality, and create a baseline for future improvement.
  • Facilitate and lead high-impact Kaizen events and rapid improvement projects, ensuring proper follow-through, sustainment of gains, and clear communication of results.
  • Define, monitor, and rigorously analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the value stream, reporting on trends and implementing data-driven countermeasures to address shortfalls.
  • Develop and manage both operational and capital expenditure (CapEx) budgets, creating compelling business cases for investments in new technology or equipment.
  • Foster deep cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Quality, Finance, and Sales to resolve systemic issues and support new product introductions (NPI).
  • Serve as the primary organizational point of contact for the value stream's performance, communicating status, challenges, and strategic initiatives to senior leadership.
  • Drive robust root cause analysis (RCA) on safety incidents, quality defects, and delivery misses, ensuring the implementation of effective and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Mentor and coach team members at all levels on the practical application of Lean principles, empowering them to become active problem-solvers.
  • Develop and execute inventory management strategies, including Kanban and pull systems, to balance service levels with working capital efficiency.
  • Guarantee that all product quality standards and customer specifications are consistently met or exceeded by embedding quality at the source.
  • Lead change management initiatives within the value stream, effectively communicating the "why" behind changes and building buy-in from all stakeholders.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis to uncover hidden operational trends.
  • Contribute to the organization's broader operational excellence strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to translate data needs and process improvements into system and technology requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies for projects impacting the value stream.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Lean Manufacturing: Expert-level knowledge and demonstrated application of Lean tools (e.g., Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kanban, SMED, TPM, Poka-Yoke).
  • Six Sigma: Proficiency in DMAIC methodology for complex problem-solving; Green or Black Belt certification is highly desirable.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong ability to read, understand, and manage a Profit & Loss (P&L) statement, develop budgets, and perform cost-benefit analysis.
  • ERP Systems: Hands-on experience with Enterprise Resource Planning systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) for production planning and inventory control.
  • Capacity Planning & Analysis: Skill in analyzing production capacity, identifying bottlenecks, and developing strategies to align capacity with demand.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to lead complex projects from conception to completion, managing timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Mastery of problem-solving techniques such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Data Analysis & KPI Management: Ability to interpret operational data, track performance against KPIs, and make data-driven decisions.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:

Experience Requirements

  • A proven track record of leading a successful Lean transformation and delivering quantifiable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Experience in a high-mix, complex manufacturing environment (e.g., automotive, aerospace, medical devices, electronics).
