Primary Functions
- Conduct a full range of non-invasive vascular diagnostic procedures, including but not limited to carotid duplex, peripheral arterial and venous duplex imaging, and visceral vascular studies, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
- Operate sophisticated ultrasound equipment with precision, skillfully adjusting technical parameters and transducer selection to optimize image quality for each patient's unique anatomy.
- Obtain and meticulously analyze hemodynamic data using advanced Doppler techniques, including spectral and color flow analysis, to assess blood flow patterns and identify pathologies.
- Prepare patients for procedures by clearly and compassionately explaining the examination, answering questions, and positioning them correctly to ensure their comfort and safety.
- Thoroughly review patient medical history and physician orders to understand the clinical question and tailor the examination protocol for a comprehensive diagnostic assessment.
- Generate a detailed preliminary technical report for the interpreting physician, summarizing sonographic findings, key measurements, and any observed abnormalities for their final review.
- Collaborate directly and professionally with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and other physicians to provide technical insights and ensure the acquisition of all necessary diagnostic views.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate patient records, archiving images and documenting findings within the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Adhere strictly to all departmental, hospital, and regulatory standards, including safety protocols and infection control policies, to maintain a safe clinical environment.
- Perform routine quality control checks and calibrations on ultrasound systems, troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions, and coordinate with biomedical engineering for service and repairs.
- Assist physicians with ultrasound-guided interventional procedures, such as venous ablations or thrombin injections, by providing real-time imaging and maintaining a sterile field.
- Independently perform and interpret non-imaging physiological vascular tests, such as Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) and segmental pressures, to evaluate for peripheral arterial disease.
- Efficiently manage a dynamic patient schedule, prioritizing STAT and urgent requests in a fast-paced clinical setting while maintaining a high standard of care.
- Maintain active status and fulfill continuing medical education (CME) requirements mandated by credentialing bodies like the ARDMS to stay current with evolving technology and techniques.
