Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop and articulate compelling, production-viable vehicle design concepts for both exteriors and interiors, from initial ideation sketches and renderings through to final 3D data.
- Create a high volume of innovative 2D design proposals, including sketches, illustrations, and renderings, to effectively explore and communicate diverse design directions and solutions.
- Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams—including Engineering, Aerodynamics, Manufacturing, and Marketing—to successfully integrate design concepts while navigating technical, packaging, and business constraints.
- Guide and influence the development of 3D digital models in partnership with the CAS (Computer-Aided Styling) and Digital Modeling teams, ensuring the virtual model faithfully represents the design intent.
- Participate in and oversee the creation of physical models, including scale and full-size clay models, to evaluate and refine the vehicle's form, proportions, and surface language in a tangible medium.
- Prepare and deliver persuasive design presentations for internal reviews, program milestones, and senior executive leadership to champion design concepts and secure project approval.
- Generate innovative and emotionally resonant design solutions that align with and help define the brand's DNA, future strategy, and target customer profile.
- Resolve complex aesthetic and functional design challenges, skillfully balancing form and function to achieve a harmonious and holistic product.
- Ensure all design work is executed to the highest standard, demonstrating an exceptional level of form vocabulary, line control, and attention to detail.
- Conduct in-depth research into market trends, competitor products, and socio-cultural shifts to ensure designs are relevant, forward-thinking, and commercially viable.
- Develop detailed design specifications for key exterior and interior components such as lighting systems, grilles, wheels, seating, and instrument panels.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, sustainable materials, and advanced manufacturing processes, and strategically integrate them into new design concepts.
- Engage with the User Experience (UX) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) teams to ensure the seamless and intuitive integration of digital displays and controls within the physical interior space.
- Work closely with the Color & Materials design team to select, specify, and approve finishes, textiles, and trims that enhance the overall design narrative.
- Refine and iterate on design concepts based on critical feedback from aerodynamic analysis (CFD/wind tunnel), ergonomic assessments, and user research clinics.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Exceptional 2D Sketching & Rendering: Mastery of traditional (pen/paper) and digital (Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro) techniques to quickly communicate ideas.
- 3D CAS/NURBS Modeling: High level of proficiency in automotive design software, primarily Autodesk Alias. Experience with Rhino, Gravity Sketch, or Blender is a plus.
- 3D Visualization: Ability to create compelling, photorealistic renderings using software like VRED, Keyshot, or Unreal Engine.
- Understanding of Clay Modeling: Knowledge of the physical clay modeling process and the ability to guide clay modelers effectively.
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes: Familiarity with automotive production methods like sheet metal stamping, injection molding, and composite fabrication.
- Vehicle Architecture & Packaging: Strong understanding of vehicle layouts, hard points, and the spatial requirements of mechanical and electrical components.
- Ergonomics and HMI Principles: A solid grasp of human factors, comfort, and usability as they apply to vehicle interiors and controls.
- Aerodynamic Principles: Foundational knowledge of how vehicle form affects aerodynamic performance.
