Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, long-term strategic plan for the finished vehicle logistics network, ensuring alignment with corporate growth objectives and market dynamics.
  • Assume full ownership and accountability for a multi-million dollar logistics budget, including forecasting, variance analysis, and the continuous pursuit of cost optimization and value creation.
  • Lead complex, high-stakes negotiations and manage the entire lifecycle of contracts with a diverse portfolio of logistics service providers, including ocean carriers, rail operators, trucking companies, and port processors.
  • Direct and oversee the complete vehicle distribution lifecycle, from the moment a vehicle leaves the production line to its final delivery, ensuring end-to-end visibility, quality control, and adherence to delivery timelines.
  • Cultivate and lead a large, often geographically dispersed, team of logistics professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development through effective coaching and mentorship.
  • Design, implement, and rigorously monitor a suite of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure network performance, carrier quality, transit times, and cost-effectiveness, using data to drive decision-making.
  • Act as the primary liaison for all high-level escalations and crisis management situations within the logistics network, such as major transport disruptions, port congestion, or quality holds, developing and deploying swift resolutions.
  • Champion and drive the selection and implementation of new logistics technologies, including advanced Transportation Management Systems (TMS), visibility platforms, and data analytics tools to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure unwavering compliance with all local, national, and international transportation and customs regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, and import/export laws, to mitigate risk and avoid penalties.
  • Forge strong, collaborative relationships with executive leadership in Manufacturing, Sales, and Finance to ensure logistics capacity and strategy are perfectly synchronized with production schedules and sales forecasts.
  • Conduct regular, in-depth reviews of the logistics network design, identifying opportunities for optimization, route rationalization, and mode-shifting to improve both cost and service levels.
  • Oversee all aspects of finished vehicle yard management and storage strategies, optimizing for space utilization, minimizing vehicle dwell time, and maintaining the quality and integrity of inventory.
  • Direct the claims management process for in-transit damages, working to minimize incidents through proactive quality initiatives and ensuring fair and timely resolution when damages occur.
  • Spearhead sustainability initiatives within the vehicle logistics network by evaluating and promoting the use of greener transportation solutions, such as electric vehicle carriers or rail-centric strategies.
  • Develop and maintain robust contingency and business continuity plans for the supply chain to ensure resilience and operational stability in the face of unforeseen disruptions.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling presentations on logistics performance, strategic initiatives, and budget adherence to the executive leadership team and other key stakeholders.
  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in automotive logistics by actively participating in industry forums and maintaining a strong professional network.
  • Lead the logistics workstream for new market entries and major product launches, designing and establishing the necessary outbound supply chain infrastructure to support the business.
  • Partner with the Quality department to establish and enforce stringent standards for vehicle handling and transportation among all logistics partners, conducting regular audits and performance reviews.
  • Drive a customer-centric focus throughout the logistics organization, ensuring that the needs of dealers and end-customers are a primary consideration in all strategic and operational decisions.

  • Collaborate closely with the Sales and Marketing teams to align logistics capabilities with promotional campaigns, regional inventory targets, and dealer allocation plans.
  • Champion and lead cross-functional continuous improvement projects using methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma to eliminate waste and enhance efficiency within the supply chain.
  • Represent the company in high-level discussions with port authorities, rail operators, and industry consortiums to influence policy and advocate for the company's interests.
