Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Perform comprehensive multi-point inspections on various vehicle makes and models to accurately identify necessary maintenance or repair needs.
Diagnose complex performance issues and drivability problems using advanced diagnostic scan tools, oscilloscopes, and computer-based software.
Execute a full range of engine repairs, including but not limited to timing belt/chain replacements, head gasket jobs, and internal component services.
Service and repair manual and automatic transmission systems, including fluid flushes, clutch replacements, and drivetrain component overhauls.
Conduct thorough inspection and repair of braking systems, including replacement of pads, rotors, calipers, and servicing of ABS/traction control systems.
Address issues within steering and suspension systems by performing alignments, replacing shocks, struts, ball joints, and other critical components.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair vehicle heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including leak detection and refrigerant recharging.
Carry out routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid exchanges according to manufacturer specifications.
Interpret complex technical service bulletins, wiring diagrams, and schematics to effectively troubleshoot and resolve electrical and electronic system faults.
Meticulously document all findings, work performed, and parts used on digital or paper repair orders to ensure accurate records and transparent customer billing.
Communicate clearly and professionally with service advisors, providing detailed explanations of diagnoses and recommended repair plans.
Test-drive vehicles before and after repairs to verify customer concerns, confirm the effectiveness of the repairs, and ensure the vehicle operates safely.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all shop safety protocols and environmental regulations.
Stay current with emerging automotive technologies, new vehicle systems, and evolving repair methodologies through continuous training and professional development.
Utilize shop management software to accurately track labor time, manage parts ordering, and maintain a consistent workflow.
Perform state-mandated safety and/or emissions inspections, ensuring vehicles comply with all local and federal regulations.
Diagnose and repair complex issues within vehicle electronic systems, including onboard computers (ECU/PCM), sensors, and wiring harnesses.
Service and replace exhaust system components, including catalytic converters, mufflers, and oxygen sensors, to ensure proper emissions control.
Work proficiently with both gasoline and modern diesel engine systems, understanding the unique service requirements of each.
Ensure all repairs are completed to the highest quality standards, meeting or exceeding manufacturer specifications to guarantee vehicle reliability and customer safety.
Remove and reinstall major vehicle components and assemblies to facilitate repairs on interconnected systems.
Provide accurate time and cost estimates for repairs to assist service advisors in preparing customer quotes.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)
