Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Full Fleet Lifecycle Management: Direct and oversee the entire lifecycle of all fleet vehicles, from strategic acquisition and specification to in-fleeting, ongoing operations, and timely, cost-effective disposal or de-fleeting.
  • Strategic Maintenance Program Development: Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule and repair program to minimize vehicle downtime, ensure driver safety, and extend the economic life of all assets.
  • Budgetary and Financial Oversight: Develop, manage, and maintain accountability for the annual vehicle operations budget, including forecasting and controlling costs related to fuel, maintenance, repairs, insurance, depreciation, and capital expenditures.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Safety Leadership: Act as the subject matter expert on all local, state, and federal transportation regulations (e.g., DOT, FMCSA, OSHA), ensuring the fleet and all driver operations are in full compliance with legal and safety standards.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of drivers, technicians, dispatchers, and administrative staff, overseeing recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and professional development.
  • Performance Monitoring and KPI Analysis: Establish, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost-per-mile, vehicle uptime, fuel efficiency, accident frequency, and on-time performance to drive data-informed decisions.
  • Technology and Telematics Integration: Champion the use of fleet management software, GPS tracking, and telematics systems to monitor driver behavior, optimize routing, improve fuel economy, and enhance overall operational visibility.
  • Vendor and Supplier Negotiation: Manage relationships and negotiate contracts with key vendors, including vehicle manufacturers, maintenance providers, fuel card companies, and insurance brokers, to secure favorable terms and high-quality service.
  • Accident and Incident Management: Lead the response to and investigation of all vehicle accidents and safety incidents, ensuring proper reporting, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Route and Logistics Optimization: Continuously analyze and optimize vehicle routing and scheduling to improve efficiency, reduce mileage, and enhance service levels or delivery times.
  • Process Improvement Initiatives: Proactively identify inefficiencies within vehicle operations and spearhead process improvement projects aimed at reducing costs, improving safety, and increasing productivity.
  • Driver Safety Program Management: Develop, implement, and enforce a robust driver safety program, including safety training, behavior monitoring (e.g., harsh braking, speeding), and a recognition system for safe driving records.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional leaders in departments such as Finance, HR, Sales, and Customer Service to ensure fleet operations effectively support and align with broader company goals.
  • Asset Allocation and Utilization: Strategically manage the allocation and deployment of vehicles across different regions or business units to ensure maximum utilization and operational readiness.
  • Fuel Management Program: Implement and oversee a comprehensive fuel management strategy, including sourcing, fuel card controls, and initiatives to reduce overall fuel consumption and cost.
  • Sustainability and Fleet Modernization: Research and evaluate emerging technologies, such as electric vehicles (EVs) and alternative fuels, developing a long-term strategy for fleet modernization and improved sustainability.
  • Parts and Inventory Control: Oversee the management of the parts and supplies inventory for vehicle maintenance, ensuring critical parts are available while controlling carrying costs and minimizing waste.
  • Driver Qualification and Records Management: Ensure all driver qualification files are meticulously maintained, complete, and up-to-date in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Emergency and Roadside Assistance Coordination: Establish and manage protocols for handling vehicle breakdowns and roadside emergencies to ensure driver safety and minimize operational disruptions.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
