Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Assemble and build up complete prototype and pre-production vehicles from the ground up, following detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Install, integrate, and configure complex electronic systems, including advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), infotainment units, and specialized vehicle control modules.
- Perform intricate modifications to vehicle body, chassis, and powertrain systems, requiring skills in fabrication, welding, and machining to accommodate new components or test setups.
- Execute root cause analysis on complex vehicle-level issues across mechanical, electrical, and software domains, meticulously documenting findings for engineering review.
- Install and operate sophisticated data acquisition (DAQ) systems and vehicle instrumentation (e.g., accelerometers, strain gauges, thermocouples) to capture critical test data.
- Flash, configure, and update software on various electronic control units (ECUs) and diagnose software-related anomalies using proprietary and industry-standard tools.
- Conduct comprehensive vehicle shakedowns and functional verification tests post-build to ensure all systems operate according to design specifications before engineering hand-off.
- Utilize CAN, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet analysis tools to monitor vehicle network traffic, diagnose communication faults, and validate module interactions.
- Prepare and maintain development vehicles for a wide range of tests, including durability runs, environmental exposure, performance evaluations, and public road assessments.
- Collaborate directly with design and release engineers to provide expert, hands-on feedback on component fitment, vehicle buildability, serviceability, and potential design improvements.
- Diagnose and repair advanced electrical system faults using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and high-level diagnostic scan tools, interpreting complex wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Manage the workshop inventory and logistics of high-value, low-volume prototype parts, ensuring component availability aligns with dynamic project build schedules.
- Maintain impeccable and detailed records of all work performed, including part changes, torque specifications, software versions, and issue-tracking reports.
- Uphold and enforce stringent safety protocols, particularly when working with high-voltage (HV) systems on electric (EV) and hybrid vehicles, as well as during on-track testing.
- Perform precision vehicle alignments, suspension setups, and wheel/tire services tailored to specific vehicle dynamics and testing requirements.
- Support and execute structured test procedures on proving grounds, test tracks, or public roads, carefully recording objective measurements and subjective observations.
- Provide direct, hands-on technical support during high-profile engineering reviews, executive demonstrations, and vehicle evaluation events.
Secondary Functions

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)

- Data Acquisition & Instrumentation: Proficiency with DAQ hardware (VBOX, Dewesoft, etc.) and installing various sensors.
- Automotive Network Analysis: Strong ability to use tools like CANalyzer, PCAN, or Vehicle Spy to troubleshoot CAN, LIN, and Ethernet networks.
- Fabrication and Welding: Skill in MIG/TIG welding, machining, and general metal/plastic fabrication to create custom brackets and mounts.
