Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive, multi-point static and dynamic inspections on newly assembled vehicles, meticulously adhering to established checklists and world-class quality standards.
- Perform detailed examinations of all vehicle exterior surfaces, identifying and classifying imperfections such as paint defects (orange peel, runs, dirt nibs), panel fitment, scratches, and dents.
- Execute thorough interior assessments, verifying the fit, finish, and alignment of all trim, upholstery, and interior components, while ensuring the absence of any cosmetic flaws.
- Validate the proper functioning of all mechanical systems through specified test procedures, including engine performance, transmission shifting, brake system engagement, steering response, and suspension feel.
- Test and confirm the full functionality of all electrical and electronic systems, from basic lighting and signals to complex infotainment units, navigation, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
- Accurately and precisely document all identified non-conformities, defects, and discrepancies in the corporate Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring data integrity for trend analysis.
- Capture clear, high-resolution digital photographs and videos to support defect documentation, providing unambiguous evidence for root cause analysis by engineering teams.
- Generate detailed, objective, and technically sound inspection reports for review by production leadership, quality engineering, and plant management to drive accountability.
- Utilize a variety of precision measurement tools, including feeler gauges, digital calipers, paint depth meters, and OBD-II diagnostic scan tools to confirm vehicle specifications and diagnose faults.
- Verify that all specified components, standard features, optional accessories, and customer-facing documentation (e.g., owner's manual, warranty booklet) are present and correctly installed.
- Systematically perform rigorous Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) to guarantee that each vehicle is 100% customer-ready, meeting all internal, federal, and local market requirements.
- Apply standardized defect classification criteria (e.g., critical, major, minor) to logically categorize issues by severity, helping to prioritize repair and rework efforts effectively.
- Authorize and apply quality hold status to non-conforming vehicles, clearly communicating the identified issues and required corrective actions to the appropriate repair or production teams.
- Meticulously re-inspect and validate vehicles after rework has been completed, ensuring all identified issues have been fully resolved to the original quality standard without introducing new defects.
- Actively participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and problem-solving workshops with cross-functional teams to identify the source of recurring defects and develop robust countermeasures.
- Provide clear, concise, and constructive real-time feedback to assembly line operators and team leaders regarding quality deviations to foster immediate correction and prevent recurrence.
- Maintain, handle, and calibrate all inspection tools, gauges, and diagnostic equipment according to a defined schedule to ensure consistent measurement accuracy and reliability.
- Stay consistently current with new vehicle models, mid-cycle enhancements, running engineering changes, and evolving quality standards through continuous training and self-study.
- Conduct final vehicle audits (FVA) on a random sample of "customer-ready" vehicles to independently verify the effectiveness of the entire quality control and rectification process.
- Adhere strictly to all plant safety protocols and procedures, including the mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe vehicle handling practices at all times.
- Assist in the formal training, onboarding, and mentoring of new inspectors, effectively sharing knowledge of standards, inspection techniques, and best practices.
- Collaborate with the Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) team by reporting and documenting issues related to incoming parts and materials that impact final vehicle quality.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis on quality trends, defect rates, and first-time-through (FTT) metrics.
- Contribute to the organization's quality management strategy and continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process enhancements.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing units to translate quality findings into actionable process or design improvements.
- Participate in daily team meetings, quality reviews, and other agile ceremonies within the quality assurance department.
