Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Proactively source new investment opportunities by building and maintaining a network within the startup ecosystem, attending industry events, and leveraging research databases.
- Conduct initial screening and evaluation of a high volume of inbound deal flow, including pitch decks and business plans, to identify promising companies that align with the firm's investment thesis.
- Perform deep-dive market research to map industry landscapes, identify emerging technological trends, and develop new investment theses in sectors of interest to the firm.
- Execute detailed competitive analysis to understand a target company's positioning, differentiation, and defensibility against existing and potential competitors.
- Support the end-to-end due diligence process for potential investments, collaborating with the deal team to scrutinize every aspect of the business.
- Analyze and assess the strength and experience of a startup's founding team, including conducting background research and participating in initial management calls.
- Evaluate a company's product and technology, assessing its technical viability, scalability, and intellectual property landscape.
- Develop detailed financial models to analyze a company's historical performance, project future growth, and evaluate unit economics, margins, and capital efficiency.
- Assist in building robust Total Addressable Market (TAM), Serviceable Addressable Market (SAM), and Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM) models to validate market size and growth potential.
- Participate in and document findings from customer and expert reference calls to validate product-market fit and gather unbiased industry perspectives.
- Draft and contribute to the creation of comprehensive investment memorandums that synthesize all due diligence findings and present a clear, data-driven investment recommendation.
- Analyze complex capitalization tables to understand ownership structure, dilution scenarios, and the potential impact of new financing rounds.
- Attend partner meetings and investment committee sessions, taking detailed notes and synthesizing key discussion points and action items.
- Prepare and present findings from your research and due diligence to the broader investment team, articulating your perspective with clarity and conviction.
- Provide operational support to existing portfolio companies, assisting with specific projects related to market research, competitive intelligence, or strategic planning.
- Help monitor and track the performance of portfolio companies by collecting and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) for internal reporting.
- Manage and maintain the firm's CRM system (e.g., Affinity, Salesforce) to ensure all deal flow, contacts, and investment activities are accurately tracked.
- Author thought leadership content, such as blog posts, market maps, or industry reports, to be published on the firm's platforms.
- Assist the investment team in preparing materials for Limited Partner (LP) reporting, including quarterly updates and annual meeting presentations.
