Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform comprehensive "nose-to-tail" physical examinations on a diverse range of companion animals to assess their health status and identify potential medical issues.
- Develop and implement detailed diagnostic plans, including interpreting results from in-house and reference laboratory tests (bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology) and advanced imaging (digital radiography, ultrasound).
- Formulate and execute effective, multi-modal treatment plans for sick and injured animals, encompassing medical, dental, and surgical interventions.
- Perform a variety of soft tissue surgical procedures, from routine spays and neuters to more complex procedures like mass removals, cystotomies, and foreign body removals.
- Conduct comprehensive oral health assessments and treatments (COHAT), including dental charting, intraoral radiographs, professional cleanings, and surgical extractions.
- Administer vaccinations, parasite preventatives, and other wellness care in accordance with AAHA/AVMA guidelines and tailored to individual patient lifestyle and risk.
- Provide compassionate and clear communication to pet owners, educating them on diagnoses, treatment options, preventative care strategies, and long-term health management plans.
- Maintain meticulous, accurate, and timely medical records in the practice's information management system (PIMS), ensuring all examinations, treatments, and communications are documented thoroughly.
- Prescribe, dispense, and administer medications, anesthetics, and treatments, ensuring full compliance with all state and federal regulations, including controlled substance logs.
- Manage medical cases from admission through discharge, coordinating with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure seamless, high-quality patient care and monitoring.
- Perform humane euthanasia with the utmost compassion and professionalism, providing grief support and guidance to pet owners during a difficult time.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine, surgical techniques, and pharmacology through consistent participation in continuing education (CE).
- Oversee and direct veterinary technicians and assistants in their roles, providing mentorship and ensuring proper patient handling, sample collection, and treatment protocols are followed.
- Effectively manage a busy appointment schedule, prioritizing cases based on medical urgency while delivering excellent care to every patient.
- Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with a diverse clientele, fostering loyalty and ensuring they feel supported as partners in their pet's healthcare journey.

Required Skills & Competencies

- General Surgery: Proficiency in a range of common soft-tissue surgeries (e.g., spay, neuter, mass removal, cystotomy, gastropexy).
- Veterinary Dentistry: Competence in performing dental prophylaxis, interpreting dental radiographs, and executing simple and complex surgical extractions.
- Diagnostic Interpretation: Skilled in interpreting diagnostic tests, including bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology, digital radiographs, and basic ultrasound scans.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) degree from an AVMA-accredited university.
- Must hold a valid state veterinary license in good standing, or have the ability to obtain one.
- Must have or be eligible for a federal DEA license.
Preferred Education:
- Completion of a post-graduate rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range: 0-5+ years of clinical experience in a small animal general practice. We welcome both experienced veterinarians and enthusiastic new graduates.
Preferred: A strong interest or experience in a particular area such as surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, or exotics is highly desirable. Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-doctor hospital setting is a plus.
