Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive 3- to 5-year strategic business plan, aligning departmental goals with the organization's long-term vision.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including P&L statement reviews, cash flow projections, and balance sheet management to ensure practice profitability and financial health.
  • Create and manage the annual operating budget, collaborating with department heads to forecast revenue, control expenses, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and industry benchmarks to identify areas for operational improvement, cost reduction, and revenue enhancement.
  • Lead market analysis to identify opportunities for growth, including new service lines (e.g., rehabilitation, behavior, urgent care), satellite clinics, or facility expansions.
  • Develop detailed financial models and return on investment (ROI) analyses for proposed capital expenditures, such as new diagnostic equipment or facility renovations.
  • Plan and oversee practice workflow optimization projects to enhance efficiency, improve patient flow, and increase the capacity for care.
  • Formulate and implement dynamic pricing strategies for services and products based on cost analysis, market competition, and perceived value.
  • Conduct workforce planning and analysis to ensure optimal staffing levels, anticipate future hiring needs, and develop a talent pipeline.
  • Design and evaluate staff compensation and benefits structures to ensure they are competitive, sustainable, and motivating for team members.
  • Create and manage the strategic marketing plan, setting goals for client acquisition and retention and measuring the effectiveness of various marketing channels.
  • Oversee inventory management strategy, establishing protocols to optimize stock levels, minimize waste, and improve supply chain negotiations.
  • Evaluate and plan the integration of new technologies, including updates to Practice Information Management Software (PIMS), telehealth platforms, and client communication tools.
  • Lead the due diligence process for potential practice acquisitions or mergers, assessing financial viability, operational compatibility, and cultural fit.
  • Develop long-term compliance strategies to ensure the practice adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, DEA, and state veterinary board rules.
  • Facilitate strategic planning sessions with practice owners, veterinarians, and leadership teams to foster alignment and drive collective goal-setting.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors, negotiating contracts and service agreements to secure favorable terms for the practice.
