Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, create, and implement unique and compelling sound effects for characters, creatures, weapons, vehicles, and user interfaces using a combination of synthesis, field recording, and library sourcing.
  • Develop rich and dynamic environmental ambiences and soundscapes that react to game states, time of day, weather, and player proximity.
  • Integrate and mix all audio assets into the game using engines like Unreal Engine or Unity and audio middleware such as Wwise or FMOD.
  • Collaborate closely with level designers, artists, and animators to ensure that audio perfectly complements and enhances visual elements and gameplay mechanics.
  • Author complex, interactive audio systems within middleware to create dynamic and non-repetitive sonic experiences that respond to player actions.
  • Manage the entire audio implementation pipeline, from initial asset creation and integration to final mixing, mastering, and on-platform optimization.
  • Conduct and direct field recording and Foley sessions to capture high-quality, original source material for bespoke sound design.
  • Work directly with audio programmers to prototype, test, and refine new audio features and systemic tools that push the creative boundaries of the game's sound.
  • Edit, process, and implement character dialogue, ensuring clarity, emotional consistency, and seamless integration with cinematic and in-game events.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex audio bugs, including issues related to performance, memory, asset triggers, mixing levels, and platform-specific playback.
  • Perform critical listening and analysis of the game's overall mix, iterating constantly to achieve a polished, world-class audio experience across all target hardware.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for audio systems, asset naming conventions, implementation workflows, and best practices.
  • Participate in creative brainstorming and review sessions, effectively communicating audio concepts and progress to the broader development team.
  • Manage and organize a large library of audio assets, ensuring a clean and efficient project structure using version control systems like Perforce or Git.
  • Design and implement adaptive music systems that transition smoothly based on gameplay intensity, narrative beats, and environmental changes.
  • Mix audio for linear and interactive cinematics, ensuring a powerful emotional impact and a smooth transition between cutscenes and gameplay.
  • Research and stay current with the latest trends, tools, and techniques in game audio technology to drive innovation and quality within the team.

  • Audio Middleware Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience implementing audio with industry-standard middleware like Audiokinetic Wwise or Firelight FMOD Studio.
  • Game Engine Integration: Proven ability to work within game engines like Unreal Engine (including Blueprints) and/or Unity to integrate and test audio systems.
