Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize, prototype, and meticulously balance core gameplay systems, including combat, character progression, game economy, and AI behavior.
  • Author and continuously maintain the central Game Design Document (GDD) and other specifications, ensuring they are a clear, living resource for the entire team.
  • Design and document engaging player-facing features, from core game loops and control schemes to social features and monetization systems.
  • Collaborate intensely with engineers to ensure technical feasibility and a high-quality implementation of all designed mechanics and systems.
  • Work hand-in-hand with artists and UI/UX designers to guarantee that gameplay functionality is supported by intuitive interfaces and compelling visuals.
  • Create and tune complex game data using spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets) for things like item stats, loot tables, enemy parameters, and economic balancing.
  • Develop and iterate on level layouts, mission structures, and narrative pacing to create a compelling and emotionally resonant player journey.
  • Act as a primary stakeholder and vision-keeper for specific features, presenting design proposals and progress updates to the team and studio leadership.
  • Analyze gameplay data, user feedback, and market trends to make informed decisions and data-driven improvements to the game, both pre- and post-launch.
  • Implement and tweak gameplay elements directly in-engine (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) using visual scripting tools like Blueprints or basic scripting.
