Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Full Lifecycle Management: Shepherd the game development process from initial concept and prototyping through production, launch, and post-launch live operations, ensuring all phases meet quality standards and strategic goals.
  • Strategic Roadmapping: Develop and maintain the high-level project roadmap, defining key milestones, feature sets, and release schedules in collaboration with team leads and studio leadership.
  • Resource & Budget Oversight: Create, manage, and meticulously track the project budget and resource allocation plan, ensuring efficient use of personnel, technology, and finances.
  • Cross-Functional Team Leadership: Act as the primary communication conduit between all development disciplines, including Art, Design, Engineering, Audio, and QA, to ensure alignment and cohesive progress.
  • Risk Identification and Mitigation: Proactively identify potential risks to the project's schedule, budget, or quality, and develop comprehensive contingency and mitigation plans to address them.
  • Agile/Scrum Facilitation: Champion and facilitate Agile development methodologies, leading key ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to drive iterative progress.
  • Task & Schedule Management: Utilize project management tools like Jira, Confluence, or Asana to create detailed schedules, track tasks, monitor team velocity, and ensure sprint goals are met.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Prepare and deliver regular, clear, and concise project status reports to internal and external stakeholders, including studio leadership and publishing partners.
  • Quality & Vision Advocacy: Serve as a key guardian of the game's creative vision and quality bar, ensuring that development decisions align with the intended player experience.
  • Dependency Management: Identify and manage cross-team dependencies and external partner deliverables, ensuring that blockers are removed swiftly and efficiently.
  • Build & Release Coordination: Oversee the game's build pipeline and release management process, coordinating with QA and engineering to ensure stable and timely delivery of game builds for various platforms.
  • Vendor & Outsourcing Management: Manage relationships, contracts, and deliverables for any external vendors, freelancers, or outsourcing partners contributing to the project.
  • Team Health & Morale: Foster a positive, collaborative, and sustainable team culture, monitoring team health and morale and addressing issues to prevent burnout and maintain high productivity.
  • Milestone Planning & Review: Define clear and achievable milestone goals and acceptance criteria, and lead the team through successful milestone reviews and submissions.
  • Live Operations Strategy: For live service games, collaborate with marketing and community teams to plan content updates, in-game events, and monetization strategies to drive long-term player engagement.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field. Formal education is often secondary to a proven track record of shipping successful games.

Preferred Education:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) certification is a significant plus.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
