Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute precise dormant and seasonal pruning of grapevines according to specific block requirements and varietal characteristics to regulate crop load and promote optimal fruit development.
  • Perform critical canopy management tasks throughout the growing season, including shoot thinning, positioning, tucking, and strategic leaf removal to optimize sun exposure and air circulation.
  • Meticulously tie and train vines to the trellis system, ensuring proper vine structure and support for future growth and fruit-bearing.
  • Operate tractors and other farm machinery safely and efficiently for tasks such as mowing, cultivating, spraying, and hedging.
  • Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of the vineyard's irrigation systems, ensuring timely and appropriate water application to the vines based on soil moisture and weather conditions.
  • Conduct regular scouting of vineyard blocks to identify and report the presence of pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies to the Vineyard Manager.
  • Participate actively in hand-harvesting or machine-harvesting operations, ensuring grapes are picked at peak ripeness and handled gently to preserve quality from vine to winery.
  • Support new vineyard development and replanting projects, which includes preparing the soil, marking rows, planting new vines, and installing trellis systems.
  • Apply fertilizers, soil amendments, and approved crop protection materials as directed, following all safety protocols and record-keeping requirements.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of vineyard equipment, tools, and facilities, performing routine maintenance and minor repairs as needed.
  • Assist in the collection of vineyard data, such as cluster counts, berry weights, and sugar samples (Brix), to help track fruit development and inform harvest decisions.
  • Operate and maintain frost protection systems, which may require working early mornings or overnight during critical frost-risk periods.
  • Perform weed control activities, utilizing methods such as mechanical cultivation, hoeing, and targeted herbicide application.
  • Assist with erosion control measures and general land maintenance to preserve the long-term health and sustainability of the vineyard property.
  • Follow and promote all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Help with the installation, repair, and maintenance of vineyard infrastructure, including trellising wires, posts, and deer fencing.
  • Support the vineyard's sustainability or organic/biodynamic certification programs by adhering to specific protocols and maintaining detailed records.
  • Remove and dispose of pruned canes and other vineyard debris from the rows to maintain a clean and manageable working environment.
  • Assist with grafting and field budding of vines to change varieties or replace damaged trunks.
  • Operate various hand and power tools essential for vineyard work, such as pruning shears, loppers, and tying guns, ensuring they are kept in good working order.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
