Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, execute, and independently troubleshoot complex in-vitro experiments to dissect viral life cycles, including entry, replication, assembly, and egress.

  • Handle and propagate viral stocks, including BSL-2 and potentially BSL-3 level pathogens, in strict accordance with institutional and federal safety protocols.
  • Perform advanced molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, and construction of viral vectors or recombinant viruses to probe gene function and viral pathogenesis.
  • Rigorously analyze and interpret large, complex datasets using appropriate statistical software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, R) and present findings in a clear, compelling manner.
  • Author highly detailed experimental protocols, technical reports, and comprehensive study summaries for internal documentation and potential regulatory submissions.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment, including flow cytometers, high-content imaging systems, qPCR instruments, and automated liquid handlers.
  • Purify and characterize viral particles and proteins using established biophysical techniques such as ultracentrifugation, chromatography, and Western blotting.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Extensive, hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture (both adherent and suspension) and mastery of aseptic techniques.
  • Proficiency in handling and studying BSL-2 and/or BSL-3 level viruses, with a deep understanding of biosafety principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a broad range of virological assays, including plaque assays, TCID50, neutralization assays, and reporter virus systems.
