As a Voice Over Consultant, you are the voice and vocal strategist behind our brand and our clients' projects. This role goes beyond simply reading a script; it's about interpreting content, embodying a character or persona, and delivering a vocal performance that connects with the listener on an emotional level. You will act as a key consultant, advising on vocal tone, pacing, and style to best meet the objectives of each project, whether it's for a national advertising campaign, an in-depth e-learning module, or an engaging corporate video. You will be responsible for the entire vocal production lifecycle, from script analysis and performance to recording, editing, and delivering pristine audio files, ensuring every word resonates with clarity and purpose.

Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Interpret and analyze scripts to understand project goals, target audience, and desired emotional impact, providing feedback to writers for vocal clarity.
  • Perform and record high-quality, professional voice-over narrations for a diverse range of media, including commercials, corporate videos, e-learning courses, and interactive voice response (IVR) systems.
  • Manage and maintain a professional-grade home studio or utilize company facilities to ensure all recordings meet stringent technical standards for noise floor, acoustics, and clarity.
  • Edit, process, and master raw audio recordings to remove breaths, mistakes, and ambient noise, delivering polished, broadcast-ready files.
  • Apply advanced audio processing techniques, including equalization (EQ), compression, and normalization, to enhance vocal presence and ensure consistency across projects.
  • Collaborate closely with producers, directors, and instructional designers to understand their vision and adapt vocal delivery based on live or asynchronous feedback.
  • Provide a variety of reads and vocal styles for a single script, giving creative teams multiple options to choose from during post-production.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to strict deadlines and maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders regarding project status and delivery timelines.
  • Maintain vocal health and stamina through regular practice and exercises to ensure consistent performance quality for long-form narration projects.
  • Research and pronounce complex terminology, brand names, and acronyms accurately for technical, medical, or specialized content.
  • Organize and archive all audio assets methodically, using clear file naming conventions for easy retrieval and future use.
  • Act as a consultant to internal teams and clients, advising on the best vocal approach, tone, and gender to match brand identity and project goals.
  • Perform "punch-in" recordings to seamlessly correct or update sections of existing audio without requiring a full re-record.
  • Sync voice-over recordings to video timelines, ensuring precise timing with on-screen actions, graphics, and scene changes (lip-sync or dubbing may be required).
  • Stay current with industry trends, new audio technologies, microphone techniques, and evolving styles in vocal performance.
  • Develop and maintain a diverse portfolio and demo reel that showcases a wide range of vocal capabilities, styles, and project types.
  • Participate in casting sessions, both as talent and as a consultant, to help select the right voices for various projects.
  • Record and edit audio for character-driven projects, such as animations or video games, requiring the ability to create and sustain unique character voices.
  • Handle the administrative aspects of the role, including tracking recording time, managing file delivery, and communicating with project managers.
  • Provide custom auditions for new project proposals, often on a tight turnaround, to help secure new business.
  • Master the art of "cold reading," delivering a compelling performance with minimal preparation time when required.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • DAW Proficiency: Expert-level command of at least one Digital Audio Workstation like Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, or Logic Pro for recording, editing, and mastering.
  • Microphone Technique: Deep understanding of different microphone types (condenser, dynamic), polar patterns, and placement for optimal vocal capture.
  • Audio Editing & Mastering: Ability to clean, edit, and master audio to professional standards, including noise reduction, EQ, compression, and normalization.
  • Studio Acoustics: Knowledge of how to set up and maintain a recording space with proper sound treatment to eliminate echo and ambient noise.
  • Script Interpretation: The ability to deconstruct a script to understand subtext, tone, and pacing to deliver a nuanced and authentic performance.
  • File Management & Delivery: Proficiency in exporting audio in various formats (WAV, MP3, AIFF) and delivering files via FTP or other cloud-based services.
  • Sight-Reading: Strong ability to read and perform new scripts accurately and effectively with little to no prep time.
  • Vocal Control: Excellent control over pitch, tone, pace, and volume to convey a wide range of emotions and styles.
  • Breath Control: Mastery of breathing techniques to support long phrases and maintain consistent energy throughout a recording.
  • Dubbing and Lip-Sync (Preferred): Experience in timing vocal performance to match on-screen lip movements or specific time codes.

Educational Background
