- Execute and own weekly cycle count programs and inventory reconciliation processes, investigating root causes of discrepancies, coordinating adjustments in the ERP/WMS, and documenting corrective actions to reduce shrink and improve inventory accuracy over time.
- Analyze inventory aging, slow-moving and obsolete stock trends, and collaborate with inventory planning and procurement to recommend disposition, rebalancing, or demand mitigation strategies that reduce carrying costs and stockouts.
- Partner with operations managers to establish labor standards, productivity targets and staffing models for picking, packing, receiving and put-away functions; monitor actual performance vs. targets and recommend adjustments to shift schedules and resource allocation.
- Maintain and configure Warehouse Management System (WMS) data elements, including SKU master data, location attributes, replenishment rules, wave and batch logic, and put-away strategies to improve throughput; perform testing and validation for system changes and upgrades.
- Analyze inbound and outbound throughput, order profiles, and cartonization logic to recommend slotting optimizations, bin relocations and product zoning that reduce travel, increase pick density and improve order cycle times.
- Perform detailed root cause analysis on inventory discrepancies, shipping errors, and returns processing issues; create action plans with cross-functional owners and track closure to mitigate recurrence and improve customer satisfaction.
- Lead or support cycle counting, annual physical inventories and spot audits; prepare variance analyses, journal entries, and audit packages for finance and external auditors to ensure compliance with accounting and inventory valuation policies.
- Create, maintain and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for inventory control, returns, put-away/picking processes, and barcode/RF scanning usage; train warehouse staff on SOP adherence and best practices.
- Monitor and analyze carrier performance, dock scheduling efficiency and cross-dock operations to identify bottlenecks and recommend process or technology changes that lower lead times and detention costs.
- Use advanced Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, macros) and SQL queries to extract, cleanse and model large datasets from WMS and ERP systems to answer business questions and support decision-making.
- Support onboarding and configuration of automated systems such as voice picking, conveyor controls, sortation and robotics by providing data requirements, testing acceptance criteria and measuring incremental productivity benefits.
- Manage cycle count scheduling and exceptions in the WMS, generate investigation tasks for operations teams, and follow through to ensure discrepancies are properly documented, resolved and reflected in system records.
- Work with IT and system integrators to define integration requirements, mapping and validation between WMS, TMS and ERP systems to ensure master data integrity and transactional accuracy across platforms.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, Lean warehouse practices) by leading small projects, conducting time-and-motion studies, and quantifying ROI for process changes to operations leadership.
- Maintain attention to compliance and safety standards in warehouse operations by analyzing incident reports, tracking corrective actions and recommending layout or procedural changes that reduce risk and improve ergonomics.
- Prepare and present monthly operational reviews to senior leadership highlighting trends, variance explanations, proposed improvement plans and the business impact of recommended changes.
- Manage SKU lifecycle reporting including new product introductions, end-of-life transitions and replenishment cadences to ensure accurate forecasting and minimize disruption during product changeovers.
- Analyze returns and reverse logistics flows to identify root causes, reduce return processing times, and propose improvements to returns policies and disposition workflows that recover value and reduce waste.
- Monitor and control inventory holding costs by identifying overstock situations, coordinating promotions or transfer strategies, and advising procurement on order quantities and safety stock levels.
- Conduct periodic SKU slotting reviews and OTIF (on-time in full) analyses to align warehouse layout with customer demand patterns and seasonal trends, improving throughput during peaks.
- Support pricing and cost-to-serve analyses by providing accurate warehouse metrics and labor costing inputs for cross-functional pricing, margin and distribution cost decisions.
- Coordinate with third-party logistics (3PL) partners on operational KPIs, SLAs, billing accuracy, and batch reconciliation to ensure partners meet contractual performance standards.
- Provide hands-on support on the warehouse floor during peak periods or when conducting investigations to validate data findings against physical operations and to coach staff on corrective procedures.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc reporting requests and exploratory data analysis to answer cross-functional questions on inventory, capacity and service metrics.
- Contribute to multi-year warehouse strategy and roadmap planning by providing data-backed recommendations for automation, facility layout changes and technology investments.
- Collaborate with procurement, sales operations and demand planning to translate inventory insights into replenishment rules, stock thresholds and promotional planning inputs.
- Participate in software rollout projects and sprint planning for WMS/TMS improvements; assist in user acceptance testing (UAT), training creation and post-deployment support.
- Assist quality and compliance teams during internal audits, regulatory inspections and customer audits by producing required inventory and traceability records.
- Mentor junior analysts and onboarding staff on WMS navigation, reporting best practices and root cause investigation methodologies.
- Manage data hygiene initiatives such as SKU master cleanups, unit of measure standardization and location code rationalization to reduce downstream errors.
- Coordinate with finance to support month-end inventory close, providing variance explanations, reconciliations and audit-ready documentation.
- Support capacity planning and seasonal workforce forecasting by providing scenario modeling and historical demand pattern analyses.
- Participate in cross-functional problem-solving working groups (5 Whys, Ishikawa) to resolve persistent operational issues and to institutionalize preventive controls.
