Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Receive incoming shipments: inspect and verify goods against bills of lading and purchase orders, record discrepancies, and report damaged items to supervisors to maintain accurate receiving records.

- Operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and, where certified, sit-down or stand-up forklifts to move products through the facility while maintaining safety and equipment protocols.
- Conduct cycle counts and periodic inventory audits; reconcile physical counts to inventory records, document variances, and escalate significant discrepancies to inventory control or management.
- Perform quality inspections on inbound and outbound inventory: verify quantities, check for damage, confirm SKU and lot numbers, and ensure product condition meets company standards.
- Pack and label cartons and pallets to carrier and customer standards, including applying packing slips, shipping labels, and hazardous material markings when applicable.
- Stage pallets and orders at designated shipping locations, verify carrier pickup schedules, and coordinate with dispatch to meet daily shipping cutoffs and carrier requirements.
- Process returns and salvage items: inspect returned goods, sort by disposition (restock, repair, scrap), and enter return transactions into warehouse systems according to established procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation by completing receiving paperwork, shipping manifests, inventory count sheets, and electronic entries into WMS or ERP systems to support traceability and audit compliance.
- Prepare and maintain pick tickets, packing lists, and other order documentation; ensure paperwork is secured with shipments and electronic confirmations are issued in a timely manner.
- Wrap, band, and palletize product for storage or shipment using stretch wrap machines or manual wrapping processes to protect goods and facilitate safe material handling.
- Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety policies, and OSHA guidelines for personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout, and hazard communication in the warehouse environment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by removing debris, sweeping aisles, disposing of packing materials, and returning equipment to designated storage locations to support 5S/lean initiatives.
- Support cross-docking operations by quickly transferring inbound loads to outbound staging, verifying SKU flows, and reducing dwell time to improve throughput.
- Communicate proactively with supervisors, team leads, and cross-functional partners (receiving, shipping, inventory control) to resolve order issues, expedite critical shipments, and clarify priorities.
- Meet productivity and quality KPIs such as picks per hour, on-time shipments, and accuracy targets while adhering to safe work practices and site-specific rules.
- Participate in safety and training programs, including new-hire orientation, on-the-floor coaching, and emergency response drills to ensure compliance and team readiness.
- Perform basic maintenance and minor troubleshooting for material handling equipment (visual inspections, battery checks, replacing pallet wrap) and report larger issues to maintenance for prompt repair.
- Assist with seasonal surges, inventory resets, and special projects such as bin relocations, SKU re-labeling, and facility reconfigurations to support business continuity.
- Handle temperature-sensitive and specialized product flows (e.g., cold storage, hazardous materials) in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements when assigned.
- Train and mentor temporary or less-experienced associates on correct picking, packing, and equipment operation techniques to build team capability and consistency.
Secondary Functions
- Assist inventory control and operations teams with data entry and reconciliation tasks in the warehouse management system to improve inventory accuracy.
- Support ad-hoc special projects such as redesigning pick paths, improving packing configurations, and setting up new SKU locations to increase efficiency.
- Cross-train across receiving, picking, packing, and shipping stations to provide flexible coverage during peak periods and staff shortages.
