- Unload trucks and containers using safe material handling techniques and powered equipment (forklift, pallet jack), ensuring correct triage to staging, quarantine, or immediate put-away.
- Perform accurate put-away operations: identify optimal storage locations, scan items with RF devices, update inventory records in WMS, and stack or palletize goods according to company standards to maximize space and accessibility.
- Pick and pack customer orders to exact specifications: verify SKU, quantity and lot/serial numbers when required, apply appropriate packaging materials, weigh and dimension parcels, and prepare shipping labels to meet carrier and customer requirements.
- Operate forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely and in compliance with OSHA and company safety policies; maintain daily pre-shift equipment checks and report faults.
- Stage and load outbound shipments: coordinate with shipping carriers, verify bills of lading, seal trailers, secure loads to prevent damage, and complete required shipping documentation or e-manifests.
- Execute cycle counts and physical inventories: reconcile differences between WMS and physical stock, generate variance reports, investigate root causes, and assist inventory control specialists to restore accuracy.
- Process returns and reverse logistics: inspect returned merchandise, determine disposition (restock, repair, scrap), update inventory records, and prepare appropriate return documentation.
- Maintain warehouse housekeeping and 5S discipline: keep aisles clear, label and mark storage locations, manage debris and waste, and ensure organized staging areas to reduce safety risks and improve throughput.
- Follow quality assurance procedures: perform visual inspections for defects, measure or weigh product when required, quarantine suspect inventory, and escalate non-conforming materials to supervisors.
- Execute kitting and assembly tasks: pick kit components, assemble customer-specific packages, validate completeness, and apply serialized or batch tracking when needed for traceability.
- Support cross-docking operations: quickly scan and transfer items from inbound to outbound staging to reduce handling and transit time, ensuring correct routing and documentation.
- Use handheld RF scanners and WMS interfaces to capture real-time inventory movements, update order statuses, and print or apply barcodes, labels, and shipping documentation accurately.
- Meet performance targets for productivity and accuracy: adhere to daily or hourly pick rates, packing accuracy, on-time shipping KPIs, and attainment of SLA commitments.
- Implement and follow safety procedures for hazardous materials (where applicable): follow HAZMAT handling, labeling and placarding procedures, maintain SDS documentation, and follow emergency response protocols.
- Assist in loading and unloading specialized freight: handle oversized, heavy, or fragile items with team lifts, equipment, and proper blocking/bracing techniques to prevent damage.
- Coordinate with carriers, dispatch, and supervisors to schedule pickups, confirm freight acceptance, and resolve carrier exceptions or shortage/overage issues prior to shipment.
- Complete daily paperwork and electronic logs: receiving records, inspection checklists, time-stamped shipping manifests, and exception reports to maintain audit trails and compliance.
- Participate in daily stand-ups, team huddles, and continuous improvement initiatives: suggest process improvements, identify bottlenecks, and help implement lean principles to reduce cycle time and costs.
- Train and mentor new associates on safe material handling, WMS usage, packing standards, and company policies to accelerate onboarding and maintain consistent performance across the team.
- Conduct palletizing, shrink-wrapping, strapping, and pallet labeling to secure inventory for storage and shipment while optimizing cube utilization and preventing load shifts.
- Monitor temperature-sensitive storage areas (cold storage, freezer) and follow procedures for product integrity, rotation (FIFO/LIFO as required), and cold-chain documentation.
- Report maintenance needs and operational issues promptly: broken racking, damaged pallets, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards to minimize downtime and preserve workplace safety.
Secondary Functions
- Support cycle count planning and ad-hoc inventory audits to improve stock accuracy and prepare for external audits.
- Contribute to process improvement projects such as layout optimization, slotting strategies, and packaging standardization to reduce labor and shipping costs.
- Collaborate with receiving, inventory control, shipping, and customer service teams to resolve order discrepancies, expedite urgent shipments, and improve on-time delivery.
- Participate in safety committee activities, near-miss reporting, and ongoing safety training to maintain an accident-free workplace.
- Assist with seasonal peak planning and temporary workforce coordination, including onboarding of temporary staff and adjusting workflows to meet demand surges.
- Provide input to supervisors for equipment purchasing, maintenance schedules, and ergonomics solutions to reduce injuries and increase uptime.
- Help prepare documentation and support for third-party audits, compliance checks, and internal reviews of warehouse operations.
- Run basic WMS and spreadsheet reports to summarize productivity, identify slow-moving SKUs, and provide data to operations leadership for decision-making.
