Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Maintain and reconcile inventory balances across warehouse locations and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite), conducting root-cause investigations for discrepancies and implementing corrective actions to improve accuracy and prevent recurrence.
- Lead cycle count programs and full physical inventories: plan schedules, assign tasks, analyze count variances, update system quantities, and prepare variance reports for leadership and auditors.
- Execute materials requirements planning (MRP) activities including proposed orders, planned receipts, exception handling, and BOM validation to support production schedules and minimize disruptions.
- Forecast demand and calculate replenishment quantities using historical consumption, seasonality, and lead-time data; establish reorder points and safety stock levels to balance service levels and carrying costs.
- Create and manage purchase requisitions and purchase orders for non-production and production-critical items, coordinating with procurement on expediting, price verification, and vendor lead times.
- Monitor supplier performance and material lead times; communicate with vendors and procurement to reduce late deliveries, improve on-time-in-full (OTIF) metrics, and resolve shipment issues.
- Analyze inventory KPIs (inventory turns, days on hand, fill rate, stockouts, backorders) and deliver weekly/monthly dashboards and executive summaries using Excel, Power BI, or Tableau to support data-driven decisions.
- Perform SKU rationalization and slow-moving/obsolete analysis; recommend disposition strategies (rework, return to vendor, liquidation) and lead cross-functional review sessions.
- Manage warehouse slotting, bin location accuracy, and cycle count zones to optimize pick paths, reduce handling, and increase order-picking productivity.
- Support inbound receiving functions: validate receipts against POs, post goods receipts in ERP, investigate discrepancies, and coordinate returns or claims with vendors.
- Track and manage consignment, bonded, and vendor-managed inventory, ensuring accurate accounting and timely reconciliation with suppliers.
- Coordinate with production planning to align material availability to the master production schedule (MPS); provide daily material availability reports and escalate shortages with recommended mitigations.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, Lean, Six Sigma) to reduce waste, streamline material flow, and improve inventory turns across the warehouse network.
- Investigate and resolve scrap, rework, and non-conforming material issues; document root causes and support CAPA activities with quality and production teams.
- Maintain and update master data (item attributes, unit of measure, lead times, stocking locations, ABC classification) in the ERP to ensure accurate planning and reporting.
- Support new product introductions (NPI) by validating BOMs, creating new SKUs, coordinating sample quantities, and ensuring materials are staged and available for pilot runs.
- Generate and distribute ad-hoc and scheduled materials reports for operations, procurement, finance, and executive stakeholders; tailor analytics to stakeholder needs and follow up on action items.
- Support warehouse audits and compliance activities (internal, external, ISO, regulatory), preparing documentation, executing test counts, and implementing audit recommendations.
- Investigate and resolve chargebacks, inventory valuation variances, and month-end reconciliation items with accounting and finance teams to ensure accurate financial inventory records.
- Lead cross-functional incident response for inventory-impacting events (supplier outage, inbound transportation delay, production disruption) by modeling mitigation scenarios and coordinating execution.
- Configure and manage MRP and planning parameters (lead times, order minima, lot sizing rules) to reflect real-world constraints and reduce exception rates in planning runs.
- Provide training and SOPs for warehouse associates on receiving, putaway, picking, cycle counting, and ERP transaction best practices to improve compliance and accuracy.
- Optimize packaging, labeling, and kitting processes to reduce errors, improve throughput, and support traceability requirements for regulated or serialized products.
- Participate in strategic sourcing and cost reduction projects by analyzing landed costs, inventory carrying costs, and alternative sourcing scenarios to reduce total cost of ownership.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
- Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
- Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
- Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
- Assist procurement and quality teams with supplier scorecards and performance improvement plans.
- Help prepare training materials and process documentation for new inventory control procedures.
- Support pilot projects for automation (RF scanning, voice pick, AS/RS) by validating data flows and inventory accuracy impacts.
- Provide backup support for warehouse supervision during peak periods, including inbound/outbound coordination.
