Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Receive, inspect and verify inbound shipments against purchase orders, bills of lading and packing slips, recording discrepancies in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and notifying procurement or supervisors of variances.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and other material handling equipment safely to move product between staging, storage and shipping areas; ensure certifications and daily pre-shift inspections are completed and documented.
- Pick and pack customer orders accurately using RF scanners or WMS pick lists, ensuring correct SKU, quantity, packaging standards and shipping labels are applied to minimize order errors and returns.
- Stage and palletize orders for outbound shipping following carrier and company packing requirements; prepare freight documentation, generate shipping labels and schedule carrier pickups when required.
- Perform cycle counts, full physical inventory counts and daily inventory reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies, update inventory records and escalate systemic issues to inventory control.
- Load and unload trucks and containers efficiently, verifying carrier documentation and condition of freight, securing loads and following safe loading patterns to protect product and personnel.
- Maintain organization, cleanliness and accessibility of warehouse storage locations, aisles and staging areas; implement 5S principles and report any hazards, spills or facility issues immediately.
- Follow company safety policies, OSHA and DOT regulations including proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures and safe material handling techniques; participate in safety meetings and contribute safety improvement suggestions.
- Label, tag and track inventory using barcodes, RFID or serial numbers; ensure product is stored in the correct bin locations, including FIFO/LIFO rotation as required for perishable or serialized goods.
- Process returns and reverse logistics: inspect returned items, determine disposition (restock, refurbish, scrap), update systems and coordinate with quality or returns team for resolution.
- Prepare, inspect and package specialty and oversized shipments, including kitting, bundling and crate preparation to meet carrier and international shipping requirements.
- Execute value-added tasks such as repacking, product inspection, assembly of small kits or light manufacturing tasks while maintaining accuracy and throughput targets.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of daily activities, completed work orders, safety checks, equipment logs and production metrics for supervisor review.
- Collaborate with shipping, customer service and operations teams to resolve order exceptions, expedite urgent shipments and support peak season surges or promotions.
- Use handheld RF scanners, tablets and WMS functions to update inventory transactions in real time and support accurate reporting and picking efficiency.
- Support returns to vendor (RTV) and vendor chargebacks by preparing required paperwork, documenting product condition and coordinating with procurement or vendors.
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues (e.g., pallet jack, RF scanner) and coordinate with maintenance for repairs to minimize downtime and sustain productivity.
- Meet or exceed daily productivity, accuracy and on-time shipping KPIs while adhering to quality and safety standards.
- Train and mentor new warehouse personnel on standard operating procedures, equipment use and safety protocols to support team ramp-up and consistent performance.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects such as layout optimization, process standardization and waste reduction initiatives to increase throughput and reduce cost per order.
- Handle hazardous material safely and in compliance with applicable regulations when required; ensure proper documentation, labeling and storage for HAZMAT items.
- Assist with cross-docking operations to minimize handling time and improve flow of high-priority inventory.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc reporting requests, provide cycle count backup and assist inventory control with root-cause investigations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by documenting ideas, participating in Kaizen events and testing process changes on the warehouse floor.
- Assist scheduling and workforce planning by providing realistic task-time feedback and identifying peak workload periods.
- Cross-train across adjacent warehouse functions (receiving, shipping, inventory control) to provide operational flexibility during high-volume periods.
- Help coordinate inbound carrier scheduling, dock assignments and trailer staging to improve throughput and reduce dwell time.
- Participate in onboarding and hands-on training for seasonal hires and temporary associates during peak seasons.
- Support quality assurance by flagging damaged goods, non-conforming product and recording inspection results for follow-up with QA teams.
- Maintain equipment fuel/charge logs and report battery swaps or charging needs for material handling equipment.
- Assist with small projects such as racking installation, signage updates and storage reconfigurations under supervisor direction.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Forklift operation and certification (sit-down, stand-up, reach truck) with documented safety training.
- Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) such as SAP EWM, Oracle WMS, Manhattan, Blue Yonder or similar.
- Experience using RF barcode scanners, mobile handheld devices and label printers for accurate picking and inventory transactions.
