  • Translate warehouse operational requirements into technical WMS configurations (workflows, task logic, wave rules, replenishment profiles, RF menu flows, and security roles) and validate configuration with stakeholders through demo sessions and walk-throughs.
  • Design and implement inventory optimization strategies including cycle count programs, slotting strategies, replenishment rules, and safety stock parameters to improve inventory accuracy and reduce stockouts and obsolescence.
  • Create, execute and maintain comprehensive test plans and test scripts for functional testing, system integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT), track defects, coordinate fixes with development teams and re-test until acceptance criteria are met.
  • Own data migration and reconciliation activities for WMS deployments, including extraction/transformation of master data (locations, items, units of measure), inventory conversion strategies, and validation of opening balances in production.
  • Develop dashboards and operational KPI reports (e.g., on-time shipping, orders per hour, picking accuracy, cycle count variance) using SQL and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau), and present actionable insights to operations and leadership.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to WMS operations, RF/mobile devices, integration messages (EDI/API), and WCS/PLC interfaces, perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Partner with ERP and integration teams to design and validate inbound/outbound message flows (EDI, XML, CSV, APIs), mapping logic, error handling and reconciliation procedures that ensure reliable data exchange between systems.
  • Lead stakeholder workshops and process mapping sessions to document as-is and to-be warehouse processes, identify gaps, and propose system and process changes that balance operational constraints with system capabilities.
  • Drive design and acceptance of automation interfaces (conveyors, sortation, ASRS, robotics), define control handoffs between WMS and WCS, and validate transactional behavior during simulation, SIT and go-live activities.
  • Define and execute cutover plans for WMS deployments, including pilot scripts, blackout windows, staffing plans, user support rosters, rollback criteria and communication plans to minimize operational disruption.
  • Prepare and deliver training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs), quick reference guides and runbooks for warehouse personnel and super-users; lead classroom and hands-on training sessions and validate user proficiency prior to go-live.
  • Conduct continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma or Kaizen methodologies to reduce walk time, increase picking productivity, and simplify work sequences through configuration or process redesign.
  • Collaborate with third-party logistics providers and vendors to align WMS standards, performance SLAs, EDI specifications and integration requirements; manage vendor change requests and configuration deployments.
  • Manage project scope, timelines and risks for WMS enhancements and pilot projects; maintain project artifacts, status reports, and coordinate cross-team dependencies to ensure timely delivery.
  • Implement and maintain RF/Mobile device configurations and barcode standards, including label formats, scanner profiles, and device provisioning to support accurate scanning and data capture across warehouse processes.
  • Define exception handling, hold and quarantine logic within WMS for quality failures, damaged goods, and putaway discrepancies, and work with quality and operations teams to enforce resolution workflows.
  • Evaluate new WMS modules, third-party applications (slotting, labor management, labor forecasting, yard management) and cloud capabilities; produce business cases and ROI analyses to support approval and funding decisions.
  • Lead post-implementation stabilization and hypercare: monitor key metrics, capture user feedback, triage configuration or process gaps, and prioritize bug fixes and incremental improvements.
  • Create and maintain system documentation including data dictionaries, configuration logs, integration mappings, release notes and audit trails to ensure traceability and compliance with internal controls.
  • Conduct performance tuning and capacity planning for WMS workflows, picking strategies and integration throughput to ensure system responsiveness during peak volume periods.
  • Work closely with security and compliance teams to ensure WMS configurations, user privileges and audit controls meet corporate security standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate pilot and roll-out plans for new regions or facilities, including regional variations in processes, localization needs, and multi-site master data governance.
  • Provide subject matter expertise during RFP and vendor selection processes: define functional requirements, participate in vendor demonstrations, score fit/gap analysis and assist procurement with vendor evaluation.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives such as peak season readiness, new product introductions, and promotional fulfillment planning.
