Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Lead day-to-day inventory operations including receiving, put-away, storage, cycle counting, replenishment and shipping to maintain target inventory accuracy and meet service level agreements.
- Develop and execute a robust cycle count program, analyze count variances, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions to reduce inventory discrepancies and financial write-offs.
- Own stock replenishment strategies (min/max, kanban, wave picks) and partner with procurement and demand planning teams to align safety stock levels and reduce stockouts while minimizing excess inventory.
- Manage inbound receiving processes to validate quantity and quality of goods, coordinate with suppliers and carriers for exceptions, and ensure accurate receiving records in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) or ERP.
- Supervise, mentor and schedule warehouse staff, including pickers, packers, material handlers and lead hands; manage performance, coaching, disciplinary actions and staffing plans to meet throughput targets.
- Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all stock handling tasks, ensuring consistent picking methods (FIFO/LIFO/FEFO), labeling, lot control and traceability for serialized or perishable items.
- Maintain and optimize bin locations, slotting and storage density using data analysis to improve picking efficiency, reduce travel time, and increase order fulfillment speed.
- Monitor and report key inventory and warehouse KPIs such as inventory accuracy, shrinkage, order pick rate, on-time shipments, fill rate and labor productivity; present findings and action plans to senior leadership.
- Coordinate returns processing (RMA), quarantine procedures and disposition decisions in accordance with warranty, supplier agreements and company policy to recover value and minimize carrying costs.
- Oversee cycle time and throughput improvements using lean techniques (5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping) and lead continuous improvement projects to reduce waste and increase capacity.
- Administer safety and compliance programs, including OSHA, DOT and company-specific regulations; maintain incident logs, conduct safety trainings and lead workplace safety audits.
- Administer cost control initiatives within the warehouse such as freight consolidation, cross-docking, overtime management and equipment utilization to meet budgetary targets.
- Configure and maintain WMS/ERP inventory settings, including units of measure, SKU attributes, lot/serial tracking and integration points with carriers and downstream systems.
- Conduct regular stock reconciliations between physical inventory counts and system records, prepare variance reports and coordinate adjustments with accounting and finance teams.
- Plan and execute peak season staffing, storage expansion, and special projects (promotions, new product introductions, SKU rationalization) to support business demand surges.
- Manage vendor and carrier relationships related to warehousing activities, including contract terms for third-party logistics (3PL), pallet exchanges, and dock scheduling to improve service and reduce costs.
- Lead onboarding and training programs for new hires on material handling equipment, picking technologies (RF scanners, voice picking), and warehouse safety procedures to ensure competency and compliance.
- Implement temperature control protocols and monitoring for cold chain or temperature-sensitive products, ensuring traceability and corrective action for deviations.
- Supervise maintenance schedules for warehouse equipment (forklifts, conveyors, sorters) and coordinate with facilities/maintenance teams to minimize downtime and ensure safe operating conditions.
- Analyze SKU-level performance and collaborate with merchandising or planning teams to recommend SKU rationalization, bundling or alternate storage strategies to free space and optimize capital.
- Drive technology adoption and automation projects (picking robots, conveyors, WMS upgrades) by defining business requirements, supporting vendor selection and managing implementation timelines.
- Prepare and manage inventory-related budgets, capital requests and monthly forecasting inputs; provide variance analysis and recommendations for inventory optimization.
- Respond to escalations from sales, customer service or operations regarding order discrepancies, urgent fulfillment needs and service recovery to preserve customer satisfaction.
Secondary Functions
- Support cross-functional projects such as new warehouse layouts, ERP/WMS upgrades, and integrations to improve inventory visibility and process automation.
- Provide inventory data and insights to procurement, demand planning, finance and sales teams to aid in replenishment decisions and promotional planning.

- Lead periodic stocktakes (annual or ad-hoc full physical counts) including planning, execution, reconciliation and system adjustments.
- Drive sustainability initiatives in the warehouse such as packaging reduction, pallet reuse programs and energy-efficient lighting or equipment upgrades.
- Act as the primary point of contact for site-specific customer or partner audits related to inventory controls and warehouse operations.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Inventory management and control methodologies (cycle counting, ABC/XYZ analysis, safety stock calculation).
