Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Supervise and coordinate daily warehouse operations including receiving, inspection, put-away, storage, order picking, packing, staging, and shipping to ensure shipment accuracy, on-time delivery, and operational productivity goals are met.
- Lead, train, schedule, and coach frontline warehouse staff (pickers, packers, shipping/receiving personnel, forklift operators), conduct daily briefings, performance reviews, and corrective action to build a high-performing, safety-conscious team.
- Oversee inventory accuracy and integrity by executing regular cycle counts, reconciling discrepancies, investigating root causes of variances, and implementing corrective actions to minimize stockouts and overages.
- Manage inbound receiving processes: verify shipment contents against purchase orders, inspect for damage, log receipts into the WMS/ERP, and coordinate with procurement and vendors to resolve discrepancies.
- Direct outbound order fulfillment: verify order accuracy, confirm proper packing and labeling, apply carrier requirements, and coordinate staging and loading to meet carrier cutoffs and SLAs.
- Maintain and report on key warehouse KPIs — including order accuracy, on-time shipping, labor productivity (lines per hour / picks per hour), dock-to-stock, and inventory shrink — and develop action plans to drive continuous improvement.
- Enforce and champion health & safety programs (OSHA, company policies): conduct safety audits, lead toolbox talks, ensure PPE usage, and maintain incident/near-miss reporting and corrective actions.
- Operate and/or oversee safe operation of material handling equipment (electric pallet jacks, forklifts, reach trucks), ensure certifications are current, and coordinate equipment maintenance and inspections.
- Implement and maintain best practices in slotting, pick path optimization, and warehouse layout to improve throughput and reduce travel time and fulfillment costs.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound carrier activity, control dock scheduling, manage third-party logistics (3PL) interactions, and escalate exceptions to minimize detention, demurrage, and delays.
- Manage returns processing (RMA) including inspection, disposition (restock, refurbish, scrap), and documentation to ensure accurate inventory and minimize financial exposure.
- Create, maintain, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training materials for warehouse processes and seasonal changes.
- Lead root-cause problem solving for recurring operational issues using data-driven methods (5 Whys, PDCA) and deploy corrective and preventive actions to reduce repeat errors.
- Plan and execute peak season, promotional, and new product launch warehousing strategies including staffing plans, overtime allocation, and temporary labor coordination.
- Partner with procurement, planning, and customer service to resolve inventory and fulfillment issues, prioritize orders, and support customer escalations with accurate status and corrective plans.
- Prepare and manage daily operational reports, shift logs, and KPI dashboards for leadership review and continuous operational transparency.
- Control and monitor warehouse expenses (labor, shipping, supplies) to meet budget targets while maintaining service levels; recommend cost-saving initiatives and process improvements.
- Supervise and participate in periodic physical inventories, annual counts, and reconciliation processes, ensuring traceability and cycle count accuracy.
- Ensure product quality and compliance with company and regulatory standards (labeling, lot tracking, temperature control when applicable), and work with quality teams to address non-conforming product.
- Mentor and develop warehouse talent by identifying training needs, creating development plans, and promoting internal mobility to improve retention and cross-functional capability.
- Manage vendor relationships for warehouse services, equipment, and supplies; negotiate service levels, monitor vendor performance, and ensure SLAs are met.
- Drive continuous improvement projects (Lean, 5S) to reduce waste, increase throughput, and improve ergonomics and safety for warehouse staff.
- Support technology adoption and WMS/ERP enhancements by providing user requirements, testing new functionality, and training staff on system changes.
- Ensure accurate documentation and compliance for hazardous materials handling, if applicable, including MSDS/SDS management, proper labeling, and regulatory reporting.
Secondary Functions

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) expertise — experience with systems such as Manhattan, SAP EWM, Oracle WMS, HighJump, or NetSuite WMS for receiving, put-away, picking, and shipping.
